Re: Moving 3.0.1 board to new server (and upgrading?)

There's a topic someone will link to that gives a good overview of the process of moving to a new server, but until that comes along, the general process is like this: 1) back up the database on the old server. 2) download all the forum files and folders from the old server. 3) import the database b...

Re: Making a moderator a foe

AFAIK, it is not possible with the stock system to make a mod or an admin a foe. Really, you want it this way, though - otherwise, everyone will ignore your mods, and then you might as well not have them in the first place. Basically, you have two choices, realistically. One option is to support you...

Re: PMs: searching a user, then having to add it?

The extra step when adding a found user, though, I really can't get my head around; why not add the user selected in the search window directly into the recipient list? The PM system allows for both CC'ing multiple recipients, and BCC'ing multiple recipients - that's why there are two buttons, one ...

Re: Adding [url=][/url] BBcode button

That's covered on the BBCode guide page linked to from the posting screen :) » Linking to another site phpBB BBCode supports a number of ways of creating URIs (Uniform Resource Indicators) better known as URLs. * The first of these uses the [url][/url] tag, whatever you type after the = sign will ca...

Re: Table Corruption - Unable to rectify

I would suggest asking your host to relocate your site to a new server, and then restoring from a pre-upgrade backup.

Re: Table Corruption - Unable to rectify

Ivan - You may have better luck checking/repairing from the MySQL console rather than via phpmyadmin. See e.g. the following MySQL reference page: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/repair.html Be sure to check the docs for your particular version. I suspect, as the others do, that it's likely a...

Re: Search stuffed

60 posts per second... thats 3600 / minute and i have 360000+ postings, so that would be around 2 hours , hmms, then st went wrong :p Better check your math: 360,000 posts/60 posts per second = 6000 seconds 6000 seconds / 60 seconds per minute = 100 minutes to index ;) Anyway, it really does depend...

Re: Search stuffed

The search index is not carried over during the conversion, so you'll need to rebuild it to re-index all your old posts. This can be done in the ACP by going to the maintenance tab and clicking on "Search index". You'll see two options, Fulltext native and Fulltext mysql, one of which will...

Re: Getting Search to Work Properly?

The first thing that comes to mind is that if you change the min and/or max character lengths, you have to rebuild the index afterwards for the changes to take effect. You said you've rebuilt it several times, but is it possible that you haven't rebuilt it since changing those settings?

Re: The hardest question of all... how do you get new users?

I don't think my model for success can be replicated very easily. In our case, we got started as a splinter group from a very large and successful existing forum. Basically, it was made clear to us by the operators of this other forum that we were no longer welcome there due to our views on certain ...

Have you checked the recipient's end to make sure there's nothing snarfing up the emails there - over-aggressive spam filter or something?

Re: A Few Display Problems (Firefox)

Is this your own custom style having these problems? If so, you'll probably get more and better help amongst the other style designers here: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php?f=74 If someone else did this style for you, and you're not having these problems with the default styles, you're ...

Re: One (and only one) admin receive user activation email?

I just created a dummy email alias for the return/contact addresses in the ACP. Anything that gets sent to that address - bounce messages, registration notifications, etc. - automatically gets forwarded and CC'd to all the admins. Much easier than mucking about with the code.

Re: Disable BBCode "size" tag only?

Wouldn't it be easier just to set the maximum font size in the ACP? ACP -> General -> Post Settings -> Maximum font size per post - set it to 100% and your problem is solved, no?
