Re: Notify Admin on Registration: Difference between phpBB’s built-in option and extension solution?

if you choose by email for registration then they get an email and the admin does not unless you have that extension installed. if you choose 'by admin" for registration then they get an email and you get an email to activate the account as jelly said. do you have a specific reason why you want peop...

Re: How do I congure the board to display [c]

if you follow the instructions in the upgrade guide you will be fine because the very first instruction is to make a backup of the files and the database. as long as you have a backup there is nothing you can do to break it so bad that you can't recover it in just a few clicks and a little time. rob...

Re: How do I congure the board to display [c]

when you create a bbcode you have to tell it to display in the posting screen along with all the other bbcodes. you also have to put in a description of how to use it if you wish. you can go back to the admin panel, posting tab, find your bbcode listed there and click on the green gear icon at the f...

Re: question before upgrading

all you have to do is go to the folder named install. like this: http://yourdomain.com/yourphpbb/install or, if your board is in the root: http://yourdomain.com/install just that, nothing after the "install" then on the install page, choose update, then choose update then choose update database only...

Re: How To Hide Admin IP For Moderators

many times people think they know the best way to solve their problem when that way is not the best way . therefore, we ask questions to try and find out what they are really after. usually if we know what the final outcome they want is, then we can suggest the best way to achieve that outcome. also...

Re: Help with code to insert banner on 1st, 2nd and last post

the problem is that you keep talking about a topic with 50 posts but normally a page only displays 25 by default. you can change that, but if you set it to 50 what happens when a topic contains 51 posts. now you have 50 on one page and one on another page. not to mention that 50 posts on a page woul...

Re: Block removing and editing the standard phpBB default style

I have never seen an update fail because of prosilver not having the ID of 1 even back when we all used the auto update, it still did not depend on the style ID in the database. I would assume that the old auto update did a simple file diff of the prosilver files and created the needed changes to th...

ok, just for discussion, using your example of housewives and recipes, how many housewives that use phpbb for discussing recipes have you talked to or heard from that don't like the color chart or anything else about how phpbb uses bbcode? I do apologize for going so far off topic about what you ask...

Re: Support Management/Ticketing Extension?

phpbb is a discussion/bulletin board not a support ticket software. having said that, there was an extension for it: https://www.dmzx-web.net/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=1344 and , of course, you can always find the proper software that was designed for this purpose: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=open+source+s...

he didn't say turn off mod_security, he said turn off mod_security rules. two different things. the hoster/you can set whatever rules you want to trigger the mod_security. many times a host will simply install it on their server without ever looking to see what the level of strictness is. when that ...

error message says it right there. they do not allow you to send bulk mail and/or unsolicited mail using their servers. now, exactly what type of email are you trying to send? what email address are you using? there is usually no reason to use smtp for mail. just create a email address at your domai...

no offense to you either. It seems to me that probably 95% of the people that come here looking for help are not "nerdy experts" and they apparently have no problem figuring out how to use the included bbcode system. there have been requests for wysiwyg editors but in the overall scheme of things it...

Re: Text color picker or drop-down menu with 8-16 colors only?

in all the years that bbcode has been available in phpbb and all the years of posts here, how many of the millions of posts here contain any bbcode? not many. I agree that the standard bbcodes can be useful to posters, but as mentioned above, phpbb is a bulletin board. bulletin boards by design are ...
