Textual confirmation e-mail problem

Post by Athlon101 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 9:32 am

Hi Everyone

Has anyone else been getting the following notification from their hosting company in relation to the Textual confirmation mod?

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of
its recipients after 25 hours.

"The message has not yet been delivered to the following addresses:

<tcsubmit@bbspam.com>

host mail.bbspam.com[1.2.3.4]:
connection to mail exchanger failed with timeout

No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for
some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message
remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up,
and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.

--- The header of the original message is following. --- "

At the moment this mod is picking up about 10 spam bots a day. I think that because it is the free version from this site it send a notification e-mail to bbspam.com with details of the spam registration source.

Is this a serious problem?

Thanks
Athlon

It does not matter at all if it can't send the notification to the author. The MOD is still doing its job.

The email would only be sent if the registration form had been completed.
If the Textual Confirmation is stopping the registration then it would not be sent at all.
Therefore the emails can only be being sent to human spammers and no mod can actually stop them registering.

What you say is technically true, but my board is currently producing over 200 of these failure emails a day. Did the author change the email address, or something? It's a relatively new problem so I don't believe it has anything to do with how my board is configured. Is the author's mail server down?

Since I get warnings about a delay of 25 hours, 2 days, 3 days, and finally return to sender, it's much greater volume than the "phpBB spam registration" emails.

I have that MOD installed on one of my boards and I'm not seeing any errors.

You could just remove that MOD, and install the RAC MOD instead. It has the same effect, without sending any emails. See the "Preventing SPAM..." topic at the head of this forum for more information.

I'm very sorry. The explanation and solution are here: http://bbantispam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=606.
