cull user list

Post by jackhale » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:21 pm

Hi all, Over the summer my user list has had a lot of web bots register fake user names so they can post websites etc. Is there a way I can cull the user list with out having to delete users 1 at a time? Kind of like going to a file, dragging and selecting a block of text and deleting it.

Thanks for the help
Jack

Spambots can easily be stopped instantly with one of two MODs. The RAC MOD or the Security Question MOD will add a new field to the registration page which the bots cannot deal with. You can mass delete any spambot accounts you have by using the Starfox Admin Toolkit.

More information is in the sticky topic Preventing Spam - Humans and Bots at the top of the 2.0x Support Forum.

The Starfox Admin Toolkit can be download by clicking here.

Thanks for the help Kevin, I will give the tool kit a shot. If I have any trouble I'll let you know.

All for now

I'm not sure why this topic was in the convertors forum. I've just moved it into general support.

OK Kevin, I uploaded the toolkit and tried to delete unwanted users and this is the error I received.

Error deleting user's group from groups table:
Line: 1477
File: /forum/toolkit.php
Query: DELETE FROM `phpbb_groups` WHERE `group_id`=
MySQL Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1

Any ideas?
Thanks
Jack

You might be missing the individual group IDs for each user. To fix it run this script

OK, Kevin, Now I see that it did delete some users even with the error message, however mine was one of them. I see that I deleted all of the active users. All the Data from the posts are still there but I can't resign up or even access with the old user name and email address. Is there something I can do to retrieve the old list? I did not do a DB backup before I started to delete users.

Thanks for the help
Jack

By the way, I see that my Admin account is still there in the user list. I used the same user name and password for my admin account.
but I still can not access it because my user account is gone.

OK, I was able to re activate my admin account through the toolkit however I did delete all the active user accounts. Can this be restored?

Thanks
Jack

I do have an old backup. The user list should be the same but the content would be old.
