Is it save to update from 2.0.22 to 2.0.23?

Post by Ultimos Homo Statans » Thu Sep 11, 2008 9:03 am

I have a lot of MODs installed, would I lose them? I guess I would have to change the codes manually, but how can I know wich files have been modified and wich are the original ones? Is 2.0.23 so good that it worth risking?

Moved from "Convertors" to "Support".
"Convertors" is just for converting from other Bulletin Board programs to phpBB.

If you have any MODs installed, then the method to update is to use the "code changes" method.
This gives you a list of all the changes made to each file, in exactly the same format as MOD installation instructions.

You can read what was changed from .22 to .23 in this topic: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 4&t=772285
This includes a security update, so you should do it.

You need to get the code changes version from here
http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/legacy.php
It will explain which files you need to edit and how.

It's always worth being up to date.
Just back up the files and database before you start.

I don't understand what your question is.
If you have ANY MODs installed, you use the code changes method.

I know that, but I was wondering if there are some incompatibilities. For example, the User Color Everywhere MOD is not compatible with Advanced Rank Management MOD. Or Visual Confirmation on New Posters with Quick Reply MOD. I've seen some incompatibilities, and I was wondering if I do the code changes, if I could lose some of my MOds.
They only say FIND... REPLACE... But the thing I have to find mayvbe it has been modified, and it's not exactly like this anymore...

That's your responsibility to try to sort out what has changed. It's one reason not to install more than the bare minimum of MODs.

Now might be a good time to see if phpBB3 offers all the features you want already built in.

No thanks, I'll try updating to phpBB 2.0.23 and there I'll remain. ;)

I think I should be able to find out wich files have never been modified by looking to the last modified date. :) Probably they'll have old dates, and those files I could just replace, not manually change codes.

That's got nothing to do with updating.

You seem to be confused as to what the update is doing.

You just need to edit the files the code changes tell you to edit.
That shouldn't have much to do with what MODs you have installed or where they are or if they're compatible with each other.

Back up your files and do the edits it says.

I was thinking that some files have not been modified and that files could just be replaced with the new phpBB 2.0.23 files. And the ones with changes, I have to manually change codes.

I suggest just manually changing them all, in case you wrongly replace a file. It's better to be cautious :) Or you could make sure to backup your files.
