Mass Email (CGI Timeout) - Assistance Please

Post by F-BodyHideout.com »

phpbb version: 2.0.4

Gang, I am trying to send out a mass email to all of my members and am having difficulty doing so. My membership is not overly large but does contain 1,865 registered members.

After typing in the subject, and text I want to send out and click to send...the system seems to be doing it's magic for a couple minutes before it sends back the following error:

CGI Timeout
The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.

Any help on sorting this out so that my email can be sent out is greatly appreciated.

it is strongly recommended to update ASAP to 2.0.6.

I assume that you have ATM SMTP disabled in Admin Panel --> General Admin --> Configuration?

Enable SMTP in Admin Panel --> General Admin --> Configuration, use as SMTP server localhost, leave username and password empty and see if it works.

If it still doesn't work, try as SMTP server the SMTP server of your hoster or your ISP as well as the respective username (if necessary) and your SMTP password (only possible, if the SMTP server supports authentication).

This might be helpful:

Thank you for your response.

However, looking at the three files for download at: http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php

I just want to make sure I grab the correct file:

phpBB 2.0.6 [ Full Package ]

phpBB 2.0.6 [ Changed Files Only ]

phpBB 2.0.6 [ Patch File Only ]

I'm imagining I'm going to want the Changed Files Only or the Patch File. :?:

If you have any mods, use the patch file.

If no mods, use the changed files file.

I don't have any mods/hacks installed on the version I'm running.

So I should grab the Changed Files download?

Thanks guys for taking the time out to help this knuckle-head. ;)

backup your database before running the update script (you might want to backup your files as well).

Successful Upgrade with no errors and you also solved my issues with mass email. You guys rock! ;)

One last question however on this....

How can I get my graphic banner back on the site :?: It's been replaced by the default generic phpbb banner.

Thanks again. :D

If you backed up the files, just restore the old overall_header.tpl :)
