Trying to add a background image

Post by surf chick » Fri Aug 22, 2003 4:03 pm

Url:
Template(s) used: FS2 Gold
Any and all MODs: no
Do you use a port of phpBB: what's a port?
Version of phpBB: 2.0.5
Version of PHP: don't know, is it important?
Which database server and version: um, mySQL?
Host: ?
Did someone install this for you/who: no
Is this an upgrade/from what to what: don't think so
Is this a conversion/from what to what: no
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: background image, background images. Found 209 results but didn't look at all of them. Looked at about 50 I think. I saw several references to these pages...

Some of it makes sense to me, some of it doesn't.

State the nature of your problem:
I have loaded a background image (called sumtxtb.jpg) to use in my forum in this location: testforum/templates/fs2/images/sumtxtb.jpg.
In the Forum administration:Styles Admin:Management:Background Image box I have entered templates/fs2/images/sumtxtb.jpg.
And I have deleted fafafa from the Background Color box. After I do this I'm told to export my settings. I don't know what that means.

I have modified the overall_header.tpl file in the templates folder from

Code: Select all

<!-- END switch_enable_pm_popup -->
</head>
<body>
<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
to

Code: Select all

<!-- END switch_enable_pm_popup -->
</head>
   <body background="templates/fs2/images/sumtxtb.jpg"/>

<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
There's a forward slash at the end of the body background line which I'm not sure about but it doesn't make any difference to the forum whether it's there or not. I don't really know HTML or CSS or PHP or whatever the code is.

And after having tried all this, I still don't have a background image show up. Can anyone help? Please? Thanks.

bump...

If I'm doing something wrong or I've annoyed the support people then I'm really sorry but I don't know what I've done. I read everything I can find about this, I've tried different things, I thought I followed the new posting guidelines, I haven't sworn at anyone, I've tried not to be rude (although I've noticed sometimes that people who are rude actually get some help in the end). I'm not bumping at less than 6 hour intervals (again, some who do get help when they do). So what am I doing wrong that I don't get any replies?

And I tried 10 times to post this (getting invalid_session errors) before starting again from the support forum. It takes me ages to post - even just to bump because of this ISP IP system here so I would really really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. :(

I too was trying to add a background image. I discovered that the subSilver template is missing two lines for this :)

Open template/subSilver/overall_header.tpl

Find
background-color: {T_BODY_BGCOLOR};

After, Add
background-image: url({T_BODY_BACKGROUND});

Find
<body bgcolor="{T_BODY_BGCOLOR}" text=

Inline Find
>

Inline, Add before
background="{T_BODY_BACKGROUND}"

Save and close the file

I hope this works for you. I think this is all I had to do :?
