...hrm, I'm not exactly sure anymore. Well, currently this is an example of what I get when I try:
Warning: Unable to create './images/avatars/8d9d647c3cdec2dada05e.jpg': Permission denied in /usr/local/etc/httpd/hommforums.strategy-gaming.com/includes/usercp_avatar.php on line 218

...however, I have been working on another board that I plan to upload this one that I've been making mods to. THe thing though, is that right now, I am to, or at least it says I am able to upload from my computer and browse for it. However, on my modded board, when I go to profile, it shows that I can only upload from another url. How do I change it?

...and yes, I think I can upload. I mean I do have access to the ftp and all...do you mean something different?

I am the host. It's a simple sym link to another server (NFS). The problem is getting more wide spread so in the mean time I'm moving them back to the web server (from the home directory).

This is something that should be addressed. A lot of hosts, myself included, don't want their customers to "touch" the web server. By the same token, installing phpBB into a home directory isn't exactly 100% secure.

Here's a question, in the Admin panel the path to the avatar & gallery. What would be the correct syntax to point it to another machine? Can I put in a file system path or is it only going to accept a relative path (to document root)?

Could not write avatar file to local storage. Please contact the board administrator with this message

Heya itayab,

I had the same problem and I just fixed it a few minutes ago, i was actually pretty easy, this is what worked for me....

This is the line that causes the problem:
$tmp_path = ( !@$ini_val('safe_mode') ) ? '/tmp' : './' . $board_config['avatar_path'] . '/tmp';

The board expects an directory called tmp underneath your avatar upload directory. If you create that directory and set it's rights to 777 it should work.

Goodluck!

Inside the administration control panel, I tried to edit the management of one of my members. Near the bottom, it has an option where you can edit his avatar. BUT...it didn't have any of the choices you have when editing your profile! I checked...upload, link to, and gallery were all enabled. But you couldn't do anything but link to it on another server in the administration panel....this is what it looks like:

Gatty,

I'd suggest downloading the message board from PHPBB onto your computer. then find those files, and upload them to the correct dir on your server.

what mods have you got installed?? By is uploading enabled I mean make a file like this

Code: Select all

<?php phpinfo(); ?>
and call it something like info.php Upload it to your host and view it in your browser. Search for 'upload' and see if it is on.

CPI News - I would try asking the creator of that theme (Nick Mahon I think)

You have to have another folder inside the gallery folder. And the avatars go inside that folder. So it's like:

images/avatars/gallery/subfolder

Your images all go in the subfolders. You can have more than one subfolder..that's they the drop-down menu is there for you to chose which subfolder to have. Use more than one if you have lots of avatars.
