upgrade from phpbb 2.0.3 to phpbb 2.0.6

Post by knuten »

You wrote: 7.ii. Changed files only
This package contains a number of archives, each contains the files changed from a given release to 2.0.6. You should select the appropriate archive for your current version, e.g. if you currently have 2.0.5 you should select the phpBB-2.0.5_to_2.0.6.zip/tar.gz file.

The directory structure has been preserved enabling you (if you wish) to simply upload the contents of the archive to the appropriate location on your server, i.e. simply overwrite the existing files with the new versions. Do not forget that if you have installed any Mods these files will overwrite the originals possibly destroying them in the process. You will need to re-add Mods to any affected file before uploading.

As for the other upgrade procedures you should run install/update_to_206.php after you have finished updating the files. This will update your database schema and data (if appropriate) and increment the version number. End qoute.

Question: How to do this: As for the other upgrade procedures you should run install/update_to_206.php after you have finished updating the files. This will update your database schema and data (if appropriate) and increment the version number. End quest.

Problem:
Hi, I just upgraded from phpbb 2.0.3 to phpbb 2.0.6. At the bottom of my forum it says: Powered by phpBB 2.0.3 © 2001, 2002 phpBB Group. So I installed the update phpbb 2.0.3 to phpbb 2.0.6.
I did as I was told. I just uploaded the files to my server in to the right directories and owerwrote the existing files.

But when I had done that and try to log in, I do not come to the log in page (http://knuten.com/phpBB2/login.php). Instead I come to http404 page cannot be found. And when I reenter the startpage for my forum and clicks on admin.panel at the bottom of the page I get to enter that. The same thing happends when I try to log out (http://knuten.com/phpBB2/login.php?logo ... edcb704e9c).
And when the forum states that I am logged in, and I click on for ex. memberlist the log out link alternate to Log in instead. I do not know if I am logged in or logged out from page to page.
I am able to view usergroups without being logged in.
I cannot get to my profile because log in doesn't work.

When I try to log in and comes to http404 page and then hits back botton on my browser and then clicks the forum index link under the logo, I can view the forum logged in.

I do not know how big the problem is or how many pages are affected by the problem. Also I do not know If the security is damaged.

I have also installed swedish and norwegian lang pack.

I can get to the form for logging in but not to the next page after that. After trying different pages I cannot find any log in or log out page after I updated the forum to 2.0.6. But I can logg in and log out since I when I hit back on my browser gets to the forum and when hitting update on my browser the forum tells me I am logged in. But I cannot get to the log in page http://knuten.com/phpBB2/login.php, or to the log out page http://knuten.com/phpBB2/login.php?logo ... edcb704e9c

install and contrib are deleted from the server.

What have gone wrong? I do not know any php so i need help.

How to run the update script.

In the changed files package (available on the downloads page), there is an 'install' folder. Within this install folder is the file update_to_206.php.

Upload the install folder to your forum folder, then point your browser to
http://knuten.com/phpBB2/install/update_to_206.php
The script should run at this point.

Then remove the 'install' folder off your webspace.

Still cant log in

Post by knuten »

I have run the http://knuten.com/phpBB2/install/update_to_206.php by simply clicking the link, but still I cannot enter the http://knuten.com/phpBB2/login.php or the log out.

Note! At the bottom of my forum it stated: Powered by phpBB 2.0.6 © 2001, 2002 phpBB Group after installing the update.

This is the result of the http://knuten.com/phpBB2/install/update_to_206.php And I have deleted install and contrib from my server.

Information
Database type :: mysql
Previous version :: 2.0.3
Updated version :: 2.0.6

Updating database schema
Progress :: . . . . Done
Result :: No errors

Updating data
Progress :: . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Updating version and optimizing tables
Progress :: . . Done
Result :: No errors

Update completed
You should now visit the General Configuration settings page in the Administration Panel and check the General Configuration of the board. If you updated from versions prior to RC-3 you must update some entries. If you do not do this emails sent from the board will contain incorrect information. Don't forget to delete this file!

I still have the same problem!

I do not know if this can be of any help, but i noticed something when the pages were shifting. there is a colon ( : ) instead of the usual slash (/) in the address after my domain in som areas. I also noticed this at http://totalpaintball.info:3306/phpBB2/ ... a925365108 (I just tested registering and logging in). I do not know if the : is supposed to be there. Maybee this is a hint to the problem in the new release?

I noticed in your support forum that totalpaintball have the same logging in problem as I have. I tried to register and post messages to his/hers forum and as a registered guest I got the same problem logging in as I have at my website. And just as at my website I to in by hitting back on my browser and then clicking forum index link under the logo. Then I was able to post a message at his/hers site http://totalpaintball.info/phpBB2/viewt ... 284c043bd6. I had the same problems when I tried to log out as I had at my own website, and to ensure I where logged out I had to hit back on my browser and then click a link at the forum.

Please, get us a fix! :cry:

Am I forgotten?

Post by knuten »

Am I forgotten? Why isn't the upgrade working properly? I used a product you offer and now it is not working. Even if it is free shouldn't it be working? What to do?

Now I have found out that it is not even possible to create new categories and new forums. That is blocked after my upgrade from 203 to 206.

URL: http://knuten.com/phpBB2/index.php
Template(s) used: subsilver no programming modifications, I have just altered the colors in styles admin.
Any and all MODs: no mods installed
Do you use a port of phpBB: I do not know what that is...
Version of phpBB: 2.0.3 (But I was upgrading)
Version of PHP: phpMyAdmin 2.5.1, MySQL 3.23.56
Which database server and version:
Host: www.servetheworld.net
Did someone install this for you/who: no I installed the upgrade myself
Is this an upgrade/from what to what: upgrade from 2.0.3 to 2.0.6
Is this a conversion/from what to what: no
Have you searched for your problem: yes
If so, what terms did you try: Browsed the forum
State the nature of your problem: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
Do you have a test account for us: Yes

I have done everything by the book.

Now I am very sad. :cry:

The colon in the address bar after your domain name, is a port open on the server to incoming requests. CPanel usually runs on :2082, and other scripts that need to monitor activity run on other ports. As for their product not working, I think, in all honesty, that it is something on your end. Not trying to slam you, but...accusing the phpbb team of having a product that doesn't work....that's just rude, especially when it's pretty obvious that it is on your end.

OH, and just for your info, my forum was upgraded perfectly from 2.0.3 to 2.0.6 just fine. :evil:

I just did the same upgrade to day.
This is what I did

1. I took a back up of my database and phpbb folder before I upgraded

2. I deletet the files from my phpbb folder and moved in the new files.

3. I run my install/update_to_206.php file

4. I deleted the install and contrib folders

and loged on to my forum

At the bootom it says
Powered by phpBB: 2.0.6 © 2001 phpBB Group

I would try re installing the old mysql database and your old forum folder and try again.

Hope everthing works out for you :roll:

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Exactly what I did.

@knuten, I'm sorry if I was rude. I DO understand the frustration that occurs when something just won't work, no matter what you do. If you made a backup of your database, like you should have :-) , then just follow geiri's instructions. It should work perfectly.

Once again, sorry.

Stupid me..

Post by knuten »

Unfortunately I did not take a backup MY IDOT, i trusted it should go smooth. I should have known better, since I have been making websites for some years know. :evil: Grmph.. :idea:

I will have to talk to my host and ask him to replace it.

And kvnband, it's OK.

Thanks Geiri for your advice. I did not delete the old files, I simply overwrote them. Maybee I did it the wrong way and messed upp logging in before running install_206 or something.

I will try to reinstall it as soon as I get notice from bb support and from my host what their conclusions are.

Happy New Year!

knuten there is a fix for the login problem.
This is it. Backup functions.php first in case it does not work.
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=83

Before you try the above fix, In Admin Panel -> Configuration, double check that your 'Domain Name' and 'Script Path' are correct for your forum location.
(If your board is on http://www.domain.com/phpBB2/ your domain name is www.domain.com and your script path is /phpBB2/ )

Post by knuten »

Maybee I will try that If nothing else works. I feel like php looks like greek to me (do not know that) :) . I have some people working on it so I will wait to see what's happening.

But I think I will try to reinstall the board before I do what you (drexion) suggested.

knuten many users have had to use that fix to fix their login/logout redirection problems in 2.0.6.
Users on certain hosts need it whereas users on other hosts dont.

Chances are after you uninstall/re-install everything you will still have those '404 page after login' errors. I would advise you try the fix I linked to in my above post.

Its not as difficult as it looks. You are replacing some of the code in one file, with a bit of slightly different code.
