Hiding forums...

Post by solracp » Tue May 07, 2002 6:39 pm

I've seen some message boards with forums hidden or visible
via a (+/-) feature. Can someone direct me to the script for this mod. I've searched for it on this board with no results...

Thanks

I am not sure if I understand what you are asking... Do you want that forums are only visible to certain users? --> private forums --> http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=10481
Or are you referring to "collapsing" forums, like this: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/index.php?c=2 ?

I originally had "collapsing" in mind...
I also saw the min/max feature on this board:
http://lostris.wyvern.com.au/~sam/index.php

I'd like to try both and find which is better for my needs. I would imagine collapsing is easier to install.

I need help with both :)

PS. I would like this mod for the index page as I've been able to collapse the forums but can't manage to make it the default setting for the index page.

actually, collapsing has nothing to do with private forums. Collapsing forums are more a layout thing, whereas private forums allow to set permissions on a user-per-user basis / usergroup basis: who is authorized to see/read/post/reply etc in a forum. Private forums are also not the only possibility to set permissions. Take a look at Admin Panel --> Forum Admin --> Permissions (Advanced)

I am not sure if all mods that are used on the forum you linked to, are in our database, but you might want to start your search here: http://www.phpbb.com/mods/ and also check the mods forum.

right....I should've clarified that I am not looking to make forums private.

I just need to be able to collapse them on the index page.
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/index.php?c=2

Or use a min/max feature like this:
http://lostris.wyvern.com.au/~sam/index.php

Any help? :D

another suggestion would be to contact the admin of the board where you saw it and see if they will share the mod with you - they had to get it from somewhere.
