simpler backups for my phpbb database (mysql)?

Post by asinshesq »

After a bunch of mods, I've got a number of tables added and I would prefer not screwing around with the phpbb backup and restore utilities.

Is there anything wrong with simply copying the entire mysql data folder called "my_phpbb" (the name of my database is "my_phpbb") and rename the copy "backup_my_phpbb".

Then, if I ever have to restore, I would simply delete the current "my_phpbb" mysql data folder, rename the backup "my_phpbb" and move it under the mysql data folder. Is it really as simple as that, and if so why do people mess around with the phpbb backup and restore utilities?
