[Fix] Problems with subSilver and backgrounds

Post by Techie-Micheal »

New link to the Knowledge Base

Are you having trouble with background images not showing up in the subSilver theme? Try this fix posted by Bender (changed by me to input into css definitions)
1. Open overall_header.tpl in templates/subSilver.
2. Add this code to the body definition:

Code: Select all

background-image: url(templates/subSilver/images/{T_BODY_BACKGROUND});
3. Save and reupload.
4. Upload your image to the subSilver/images directory!

Comments are welcome and even appreciated! ;)

keywords: subsilver backgrounds

Are you referring to the CSS file or the overall_header.tpl file. If you are referring to the CSS file, then the code should be:

Code: Select all

background-image: url({T_BODY_BACKGROUND});
If you're talking about overall_header.tpl, then it is:

Code: Select all

background-image: url(templates/subSilver/{T_BODY_BACKGROUND});
It has to do with where the presentation file exists.

Doh! That's because the CSS file doesn't know where that variable exists.

You would have to define the image in the CSS file.

Is it possible......

Post by PhoenixBB »

to have a different background on the index page, to the rest of the forum?

I`m currently trying to reproduce the look here The Big Bad Board on my new forum.

I only want the background picture in the forums, with a plain black background for the main page. Not quite figured out how to do it yet - I`m assuming I can`t transfer my current headers and footers? - but is it possible or am I gonna have to have the picture everywhere?

Thanks!

That would require a mod. . .

Hi Folks,

I've done a quick search of the board and haven't found this mentioned anywhere else, so I thought I'd post it here.

There's a small problem with the subSilver template under Netscape 6.2 (and maybe previous versions, not too sure) where the table cells in the topic view are not kept at the proper sizes. Particularly, the table cell to the right of this text (where the name, rank, location etc. is shown) gets sized down horizontally as small as it can go (i.e. the width of the longest single word in the text) and the bit containing the message (erm...that's this bit then) expands to fill the space.

The problem is that the cells in the 'Author' column are set to a fixed with of 150 pixels, whereas the 'Message' column cells have a percentage width of 100%. I think Netscape is taking the latter as a priority and trying to resize the table cells accordingly.

Now, since the table that's nested *inside* the 'Message' row has its width set to 100%, all we need do is to remove the 100% from the outside table cell and everything is fixed.

Locate the following lines (arond line 27) in viewtopic_body.tpl...

Code: Select all

<!-- BEGIN postrow -->
  <tr>
    <td width="150" align="left" valign="top" ...
    <td class="{postrow.ROW_CLASS}" width="100%" height="28" ...
...and remove the 'width="100%"' bit from the last line.

Do the same with the following bits of code (around line 43) in the same file...

Code: Select all

  <tr>
    <td class="{postrow.ROW_CLASS}" width="150" align="left" ...
    <td class="{postrow.ROW_CLASS}" width="100%" height="28" ...
I hope this helps, and hopefully we can get it fixed in the official download.

Regards,

Steve

Ready: make sure you put your image in the images directory of subSilver.
charming: I'm not sure I know what you mean. Could you explain it to me?

Could you cut a part of subsivler code out and insert the new code for a dumby board... That may help me understand what I am doing wrong...

Like where do I put the url of the image?

Is there more that one file I need to edit with doing it via CSS file?

Thanks

Here is my code from my board:

Code: Select all

body {
        background-color: {T_BODY_BGCOLOR};
        scrollbar-face-color: {T_TR_COLOR2};
        scrollbar-highlight-color: {T_TD_COLOR2};
        scrollbar-shadow-color: {T_TR_COLOR2};
        scrollbar-3dlight-color: {T_TR_COLOR3};
        scrollbar-arrow-color:  {T_BODY_LINK};
        scrollbar-track-color: {T_TR_COLOR1};
        scrollbar-darkshadow-color: {T_TH_COLOR1};
background-image: url(templates/subSilver/images/{T_BODY_BACKGROUND});
}
I made a stupid mistake above. I'm about to fix it right now . . . I hate it when I'm in a hurry. :(

Still not working...

Here is what I have done:

Code for subSilver.css

Observation: My code is different than yours. And on top of all that the code listed below is wrong for what my board is doing... 8O I have different colors than what is listed below set in my styles adim. If my board isn't running off of this file... What the heck is it running off of!

My Forum link:

http://www.thewaterrats.com/phpBB2/index.php
/* General page style. The scroll bar colours only visible in IE5.5+ */
body {
background-color: #E5E5E5;
scrollbar-face-color: #DEE3E7;
scrollbar-highlight-color: #FFFFFF;
scrollbar-shadow-color: #DEE3E7;
scrollbar-3dlight-color: #D1D7DC;
scrollbar-arrow-color: #006699;
scrollbar-track-color: #EFEFEF;
scrollbar-darkshadow-color: #98AAB1;
background-image: url(templates/subSilver/images/{T_BODY_BACKGROUND});
}

Code for overall_header.tpl
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset={S_CONTENT_ENCODING}">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Style-Type" content="text/css"></head><body bgcolor="{T_BODY_BGCOLOR}" text="{T_BODY_TEXT}" link="{T_BODY_LINK}" vlink="{T_BODY_VLINK}" background-image: url(templates/subSilver/images/{T_BODY_BACKGROUND});>

1. I tried with just the top code. (Nothing)
2. I tried with the subSilver.css file and overall_header.tpl. (Nothing)
3. I tried many different combos of the code from what I seen in the posts above... (Nothing)

BTW yes my image is uploaded to the images file for the style, and I have input the correct name for the image in the Admin Style edit.

:(

This is starting to really drive me nuts... :?
