Bug in disallowed names (*!* does not work)

Post by NativeMind »

Hi,

I've seen a few posts by people who say that they've been getting spammers auto-magically registering user names like !gay! and !!shemales!!

Well, 2.0.8 fixed the automatic registration process, but there is still a problem with the ban list.

Basically I have put *!* !* and *! in my disallowed username list and I still get someone registering with a name like !name once a week. I think it's related to the previous problem, the names are usually spanish and they have their website as some porn site.

Is there a fix for this? I tried searching but didn't find any meaningful results....

Thanks
NM

install this mod to detect and ban spammers:

http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=186683

dissalowing *!* and others won't work - they will user switch to #$%^&*() etc and if you dissalow all 31337 characters they will use only alphanumeric. Very annoying..
