Sorry, but this username has already been taken.

Post by Stubager » Sat Sep 11, 2004 10:16 pm

I got a "little" problem...

I just copied all my users from the old forum to this phpBB forum..

Then i got a message from one of my friends. He wanted to make a user and pushed the "Register" link...

After reading the agreement he pushed:
I Agree to these terms and am over or exactly 13 years of age

Then he ended up with this message:
Sorry, but this username has already been taken.

Well.. I tried by myself and i can't....

What can I do??? PLEASE HELP!!!
Wee!

You probably forgot the user with the id -1 :-)
Simply recreate it. If you're using MySQL then this here should do it:

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_users (user_id, username, user_level, user_regdate, user_password, user_email, user_icq, user_website, user_occ, user_from, user_interests, user_sig, user_viewemail, user_style, user_aim, user_yim, user_msnm, user_posts, user_attachsig, user_allowsmile, user_allowhtml, user_allowbbcode, user_allow_pm, user_notify_pm, user_allow_viewonline, user_rank, user_avatar, user_lang, user_timezone, user_dateformat, user_actkey, user_newpasswd, user_notify, user_active) VALUES ( -1, 'Anonymous', 0, 0, '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', 0, NULL, '', '', '', 0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1, NULL, '', '', 0, '', '', '', 0, 0);

The anonymous user probably didn't get copied over, somehow.

If you have access to phpMyAdmin, try running the following Query on the database:

Code: Select all

INSERT INTO phpbb_users (user_id, username, user_level, user_regdate, user_password, user_email, user_icq, user_website, user_occ, user_from, user_interests, user_sig, user_viewemail, user_style, user_aim, user_yim, user_msnm, user_posts, user_attachsig, user_allowsmile, user_allowhtml, user_allowbbcode, user_allow_pm, user_notify_pm, user_allow_viewonline, user_rank, user_avatar, user_lang, user_timezone, user_dateformat, user_actkey, user_newpasswd, user_notify, user_active) VALUES ( -1, 'Anonymous', 0, 0, '', '', '', '', '', '', '', '', 0, NULL, '', '', '', 0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1, 1, NULL, '', '', 0, '', '', '', 0, 0);
If you need help with running queries in phpMyAdmin, here is a great tutorial on it:
http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=151

If you don't have access to phpMyAdmin, paste that code into a text file and save it on your computer.

Then, login to your forum, go to Admin Panel > General Admin > Restore Database

Browse to the location where you saved the file, and restore it.

I'm having the same problem, but when I run the SQL code, I get this error:

#1048 - Column 'user_rank' cannot be null

Any help is much appreciated.

Did you ask a question here which someone answered? There is no way that script deleted users, but in any event if you just try the solution for someone else's problem, the results may not be as you expect. How about starting a new topic describing what your problem was, what you did and maybe we can fix it. There are other causes for that error message.
