password problem with new users

Post by scottyman »

Hey all,
Just wondering if you've got any thoughts on this.
I've switched my board to use user authorisation, and had a new user register last night
But... he sent me an e-mail this morning saying that when he tried to login, PHPBB prompted "unknown username or bad password" - I reset the password normally and it was fine.
But - I've just created a test account, and I got the same error even after authorising myself.
I used the lost password link, and it's taken me 3 hours (so far) to get a response (still nothing yet)
Any ideas?

no, hosted ...
site is at www.londonplunge.com hosted at www.34sp.com
they've just upgraded their php installation if that makes a difference.
Right - just tested again (e-mail came through this time!)
when phpbb assigns a new password, it works fine. But initially chosen on registration doesn't work.

On
http://www.shelbyforum.com

I have a problem with links that are emailed.
I did tests that I would recieve.
The email with key arrives but it doesn't hook up.
Goes to the blank "death" screen...
If I go to Admin choice..I cannot just OK the user with my email...
On User..They can't use the eamil to login for the first time.

What is going on..

I really don't want an OPEN forum. thats ok for a day or two..

Is there a patch or a settings change? :x

Thanks, Jim Elsmore

fix was posted by mad arab... changed $password variable to $new_password.

All sorted now. looks like hosting company had some "minor" issues with their smtp queue hence the issues with delivery of passwords.

Now I have to get the (l)users to understand that if they want to login, just tell me their usernames and I'll get a new password issued.

*edit*
link to fix from madarab

So, I am in same boat!

It loads sometimes, or you need to click back browser and try a second time.

Nice looking Board but, still having trounles with Passwords, email noticfication keys NEVER work...Besides that It is working... :(

Well, what errors did you receive when you click on the link? Can you post a sample of the link being sent to you in email?

for some reason my site doesn't load well.

http://www.shelbyforum.com

Has an index file with links to the real site at

http://www.shelbyforum.com/phpBB2/index.php

I even linked it off of my primary site..STILL the same slow load or back up then retry. Sometinmes several times..
I suspect that the problem hooking up to my site is the issue rather than the wrong keys emailed to me.

http://www.nvsaac.com

This is my main site. It is like double clutching to get into the site!

in your admin config... how's your domain name displayed?
so i.e. your domain name should be www.shelbyforum.com rather than SHELBYFORUM.COM and your script path should be /phpBB2/

otehr than that... no ideas!

Yes, it is very probably incorrect configuration of the Domain Path and the Script Path in the Configuration section in admin panel.
