Failed sending email :: PHP ::

Post by Flash_Gordon »

when someone tries to create a new account, fills in the form, hits submit they get this error;

Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : /home/www/forum.joint-productions.com/forum/includes/emailer.php

the thing is it still creates the account, but if they see that they will think it wont and just go away.

What does this error mean and how can i fix it?

It basically means that there is a problem with the email software installed on the server.

Enable SMTP in Admin Panel --> General Admin --> Configuration, use as SMTP server localhost, leave username and password empty and see if it works.

If it still doesn't work, try as SMTP server the SMTP server of your hoster or your ISP as well as the respective username (if necessary) and your SMTP password (only possible if the SMTP server supports authentication).

If this is a personal server, you'll probably want to install and SMTP server. Please see Google for some links.

On some servers, such as CoolFreePages, no email options are avalaible. In this case, you'll want to use this MOD to disable emails entirely

I don't have e-mail enabled on my board, but I do use e-mail for account activation. The weird thing is, when I tried to reply to a message in one of my forums, I got this exact same error. Thinking I hit the e-mail button by mistake, I went back and pointedly hit the Post Reply button instead. I got the same error. My posts were still going through, however. By the end of it I had 3 - 4 multiple posts while I was trying to figure this out.

Does anyone have any clue why this would have happened?

Thanks.

Thats a simple one. A user has subscribed to the topic, which makes it e-mail them when a reply is posted.

I have a similar problem, so I used smtp,(my own server). but when a user registers it goes to /www.server.com/phbb/profile.php and has error 404 page not found.

I'm lost.

Okay, so now my question is, is this an internal (php) error or an issue with my server host? It's only been in the past day or so that this error has occured. I'm a little stupid when it comes to the inner workings of things, so if it is a host issue, what should I check to get this resolved? I know my admin e-mail is working, so I don't understand why this problem would exist.

Thanks.

I switched to SMTP and it seemed to work for a while. I created an e-mail account just for the site and entered the information via the admin panel. But now I'm getting header errors and a bunch of other stuff. Does anyone know why this would occur and how to troubleshoot the problem?

Thanks.

ETA:

Here is the error I'm getting:
Warning: fsockopen(): unable to connect to mail.roguezeppo.com:25 in /home/rogueze/public_html/fanforce/forum/includes/smtp.php on line 109

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/rogueze/public_html/fanforce/forum/includes/smtp.php:109) in /home/rogueze/public_html/fanforce/forum/includes/page_header.php on line 495

That appears at the top of the page. Here is the window that appears after posting a message:
Could not connect to smtp host : 111 : Connection refused

DEBUG MODE

Line : 111
File : /home/rogueze/public_html/fanforce/forum/includes/smtp.php

I tested and retested the e-mail account. I can send and receive messages via e-mail programs with no problem. So there's an obvious conflict with the phpbb system that I'm unable to get over. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please??? This whole problem has been extremely frustrating.

Thank you!!!
