A Question About Announcement Threads

Post by Dzien Dobry »

I love the way you have fixed your Announcement threads to be on the top of every Topics page. I’m enticed by this feature. Is it set to work only one way or are there some options to select? Specifically, is the order of descent automatically fixed by the date of the original announcement or is the order predetermined by the Administrator or does the announcement on the bottom automatically move to the top when someone posts a reply? What controls are there? For example, after an announcement thread has served its purpose, can the Administrator change it to a regular thread?

Ok, I didn't quite get all that, but it is hard-coded to have announcements stick at the top of the lists. To do that, it first grabs all announcements, then stickies, then the regular topics. But announcement types are set by a radio button on the posting page for new topics. So, even if an admin is editing, he can change it from announcement to sticky or normal, and vice versa. Oh wow. :)
dougk_ff7.... stand by for sig! oooh! wow.

Are the Announcements and Stickies permanently attatched to the top or are they there for a set date then go down the list?

Like your Announcement and Sticky feature that gives special properties to designated threads, I see that a label called Moved can be attached to a thread. For how long does the Moved indicator stay up, showing that the thread has moved to another forum?

Annonucements and stickies stay where they are untill someone turns them into normal posts.

A topic will show up as 'moved' for as long as the 'shadow topic' exists. The shadow topic is whats left behind after you move a topic. When you move a topic you have the option of leaving a shadow topic or not.

Is it easy to move a post from a thread in one forum to a thread in another? If so, does any link to the targeted thread or hint of a transferred post stay behind?

No, you can't move a single post from one thread to another...

There are plans for a 'merge thread' option in v2.2 So you can merge 2 (or more I suppose) threads into 1.

I assume you can delete a post. Can you copy a thread and move the copy to another forum?

Yep. Been a while since I've posted there, however.

Yes, as that is surely a moderators job?? Plus a shadow would have been left there for a reason.
