logging in/out problems

Post by phazeone » Wed Nov 24, 2004 2:24 pm

For some reason, myself and most of my users have to log in two or three times before it actually is recognized. It's nothing to do with my cookie settings in the browser either. it happens in IE and Firefox. any ideas? same thing goes for logging out. you need to log out twice for it to work.

That would lead me to believe that it is a cookie problem :) Double check your cookie settings in your Admin Configuration page. Make sure you are using the full domain name for the cookie domain and that the path is properly set to the phpbb directory.

Example
If your phpBB is installed at http://www.foo.com/bar/phpbb/ then your settings owuld look like this:

Domain: www.foo.bar
Path: /bar/phpbb/

You can also test the cookie theory by:

log in to the forums with the "keep me logged in" option checked
close and re-open the browser
navigate back to your forums.

If you are not still logged in, then there's a problem with your cookies. Try deleting all of your cookies (usually an option under your browsers Options menu). Then close and re-open your browser and try again.

If you are still logged in, then the cookies work fine.

Good luck.

Gad! I'm in the same position - I logged out and now cannot even log in using the ADMIN!

I just uploaded the board yesterday and have been a board admin for a year elsewhere - so I knew what I was doing before coming to my own site.

It will not recognize any activation codes, nor will it allow me to log in using admin. I get the following errors:

Using Admin:

You have to access the phpbb database directly to edit the config file back to whatever was working before.
