upon installing a fresh copy of 2.0.11 i noticed the www in my url is being removed. so for example, when i go to www.flynoteproductions.com/forums
it gets shortened to flynoteproductions.com/forums i tried adding in the www in the admin->config->domain name field, but still is being shortened... anyone know why this is happening and how to fix? i guess it's not a big deal, but i'd like to keep everything uniform accross my site...

hmm..this seems to be some kind of bug with 2.0.11 because i just updated my other forum which had 2.0.10 on it to 2.0.11 and now it has the same problem! it constantly wants to remove the www from the url. a few times i could get it to stick... but then i cleared my history and tried it again on both forums, it started doing it again! i'm having this problem with both ie and firefox...

so now i noticed that if i include the link right to index.php the www is not removed from the url. however, if i don't include index.php in the url (for example, i type www.flynoteproductions.com/forums/
) it removes the www part from the url... what is the deal with this?!

This looks like there are some mod_rewrite peramaters that strips the 'www.' from the URL. Check the .htaccess file and see what rewrite condistions are there.

so where is this .htaccess file? i looked all over, couldn't find it...

Could be anywhere from your root directory to your forum directory. You will have to use FTP in order to see it though

Does not having the www. messing up your forum?
Posted: Sat Dec 11, 2004 10:29 pm
^^^ no, it works just fine. it just strips the www from the url
Clee: i looked all over my site... in the main root dir of my site, the root of my public_html folder and the root of my forum... there are no .htaccess files whatsoever... could simply not having one at all cause this?

It shouldn't. Not sure what is going on. Maybe it is something your host is doing that is the cause. But before checking that out, switch back to the subSilver template and see if the behavior is still the same. Then try a fresh install of phpBB 2.0.11, being sure to backup your config.php file first.

well, i'm having this "problem" on two different boards, both of which are fresh installs of 2.0.11 one of which has a custom template, the other subsilver. they are both on the same host though, which i'm guessing is the problem.

Well, I just visited your site as per the link above and the www was not removed from the browser.
However I wuold check your forum settings as per the following. . .
Domain Name = www.flynoteproductions.com
Script Path = /forums/
Cookie Domain = .flynoteproductions.com
- Note the dots
Cookie Path = /forums
Remember to clear your browser cache and cookies and restart your browser and test after doing this. If it all works - advice your members to do same...
Hope this helps,
Des. . .

when first going to the site, i cleared the entire address bar and entered "www.flynoteproductions.com/forums
" my forum came up and the www got stripped. however, upon logging in, the www was added back to the url and stayed like that even after logging out. it appears that the cookie setting had no effect as this same thing happens on another board i have (fresh install of 2.0.11 using subsilver) in which i did not change any cookie settings.
