Having Instalation Problems

Post by Foxfire2 »

Hi,
I´m hoping someone can give me a Tip or two.

I am trying to install phpbb.

After filling in all the info on the installation screen and submitting I get the following error message.

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home2/xxxxx/public_html/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 330

Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home2/xxxxx/public_html/forum/db/mysql4.php on line 331
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

Any one got a bright idea what I am doing wrong??? My hosting service has Mysql 4

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

You should make sure you are selecting MySQL 4.x for the install.

However, has the database been created. The correct permissions applied to it and more importantly are you using the correct details to access the database????

Hope this helps,

Des. . .

Thanks Des, turned out the msql wasn´t correctly configured

That solved I ran right into the next problem!

So using the template

URL: http://forum.sag-pips.org
Template(s) used:
Any and all MODs:
Do you use a port of phpBB: Don´t think so
Version of phpBB:
Version of PHP:
Which database server and version: Mysql 4.0.22
Host: HTPME
Did someone install this for you/who: No doing it myself
Is this an upgrade/from what to what: No new instalation
Is this a conversion/from what to what:
Have you searched for your problem: Yes
If so, what terms did you try: config, admin control panel, instalation
State the nature of your problem: After doing the install, I got a screen saying that something was wrong with the config file and it needed to be uploaded by FTP. I choose the automatic and that appeared to work. Then I was taken back to the installation screen. I cann´t figure out what happens now? If I reenter all the information on the instalation screen and press start install , it just tells me the files already exist. Looking into the mysql database, it now lists 29 files including the php_config.

So were do I go from here???
Do you have a test account for us: No but if neccesary I can give access to Cpanel and the mysql database.

Many thanks in advance, sorry about this guys, I´m feeling kind of stupid, but I´ve been trying to get my mind around this for hours an am not getting anywere.

After doing the install, I got a screen saying that something was wrong with the config file and it needed to be uploaded by FTP. I choose the automatic and that appeared to work

that means it copied the file the FTP perfectly
and it should say you to delete ur install and contrib dirs from ur ftp

and then it should show u the board

well
as its a new install
just do this
delete all ur tables from the mySQL using phpMyAdmin
and re install and when it says the above message
it will ask u to do it manually
choose manual and download the file(it will give u download automatically)
and upload that in your ROOT(find the older config.php file in ur ftp) and replace it with the one u downloaded

that will work
Thanks
