admin configuration not working for me.

Post by datrader2012 »

I keep getting the error:

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

I am confident I have the MySQL database setup properly with the correct username and password.

I think I have the script path incorrect.
I have tried a number of ways, but it isnt working for me.

If the information in config.php is correct, this is an issue with your hosting provider's server. You should contact them about the issue.

The info in config.php is blank.

This is likely a silly question. But what do I put in there? Or does something else automatically put data in that file?

Blank? Can you get to your board at all? How are you opening the file to view its contents?

Via FTPleech.

I uploaded everything to Yahoo Paid webhosting website. I created a MySQL database. I have the user name and permissions set for the database.

I am at the /install.php part of the process.

Here are the options I am selecting

Basic Configuration
MySQL 3.x
Install
Database Configuration
localhost
(name of database I created)
(database username)
(database password)
Prefix = phpbb_
Admin Configuration
(my email addres
Domain name = my website
Port = 80
Script path: / (not sure what goes here. I have tried several things)
Administrator Username = (is this a new ID I am creating?)
password = (new)
pw confirm = (new)

This is the error I get.

Okay, misunderstood your original question. Didn't realize you were installing the software. ;)

If you have setup a database and are sure the values entered in the database section on the installation page, you should contact your host as the issue is most likely with their database server. :)

You leave the script path blank except for the /
The Admin. Username is a new ID.
Also, check that you are using My Sql 3.x
If yahoo uses a higher version, you must input that in order for Phpbb to connect.

And...double check that that data base name, username, and password are correct.

the script path should be the name of the folder you are putting your board in, if your board is going to be at yourdomain.com/phpBB2 which is default, then your script path would be /phpBB2/ with both slashes.

if you want your board to be your home page, then you don't install the phpBB2 folder, you install everything inside of it to your server root, then your board would be at domain.com and then your script path would be / just the slash.
