was reading into a search on tyhis topic and saw
so its not really a problem, but rather a restriction because of spammers
.. however, im not sending mass email, im merely sending one email to a user who wishes to get an account activated

Actually, I just got this working.

I have a Microsoft Exchange server that I run for my own uses. I set up the Email Settings as follows:

Admin Email Address: [my actual email address on the exchange box]
Email Signature: [doesn't matter]

Use SMTP Server for email: yes
SMTP Server Address: IP address of my Exchange server
SMTP Username: My actual account login name in the Exchange server
SMTP Password: My account password

Everything is working great now. So...what I would perceive you need to do is talk to your server provider, and have them set up an email account with a name you want to use, say admin@mydomain.com, and give it a good password. Then configure all the SMTP info like I listed. It works fine.

Other people have mentioned that using the Mass Email feature can cause issues if your ISP limits the amount of outgoing email in a certain time frame.

You can test whether the php mailer is working using this script.
Copy into notepad and enter your email address.
Save as mailtest.php
Upload to your server and try to run with your browser. If php mailer is working you will get an email.
If not try enable smtp mail in Admin control panel with server as "localhost and no username or password.
If no joy then contact your host.

Code: Select all

<?php
mail("youremail address", "Test", "This is a mail test ");
?>

I am having the same problem. Have tried a few suggested fixes, but nothing is working so far.
