problems with "username" in admin area

Post by hm2k »

Hi there,

I have a problem with the username field in the admin area.

Whatever username i lookup, it grabs the 2nd admin account I created as the username, which is set as webmaster, so whoever i lookup has the username webmaster.

Anyway, i'm not sure why this is, i think its perhaps something to do with the way I upgraded the phpbb.

Firstly, I was sent the phpbb database from an old site, which I restored, then I installed phpbb x.14, then I upgraded it to phpbb x.16

I have the files that were used on the original forum, before i restored the db, is there a way to work out what version of phpbb it was from the php scripts, and then upgrade the database correctly and accordingly to latest.

I hope I haven't confused you too much.

Please help. Thanks.

PS. I'm afraid I cannot include the domain for security reasons.

I can't believe that no one has ever experienced this before.

Its the oddest thing i've ever seen.

I have two admins, one is "dave" one is "webmaster", when I lookup ANY user using ANY admin account, it ALWAYS puts the username as "webmaster".

Its ever so strange, there must be a reason for this.

Please help!

Thanks.

It's the Firefox automatic form filling.
Turn it off.

I don't use firefox myself but I think it's in the options>privacy> saved form information bit.

So it is.

Is there any other way around this?

I like the saved information option, perhaps there's a way to turn it off for one site, or maybe a way to adjust the phpbb code so that it doesn't get affected by this issue.

Thanks.

This was the solution they came up with over at the Mozilla Forum I managed to find...

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=289077

What exactly that means, i'm not sure...

However I do think that the phpBB developers should bare this in mind, as this is the solution to a common bug.

This is NOT a phpBB bug. Change your autocomplete settings in FF.

using any control-panel install/update is like shooting yourself in the foot. It won't kill you, but you're really going to hobble around until it heals.
Using the wrong tools (Front Page, DreamWeaver) gives the same results
