Could you fill out the support template so we can try to figure out what's going on?

1. Unzipped phpbb_2016_to_2017.zip to the root folder and run launched http://localhost/bb2p/install/update_to_latest.php.
2. The program went through few steps, reported a succesful update of the database, and recommended to do the update of the remaining programs, which I did manually as per phpBB 2.0.16 to phpBB 2.0.17 Code Changes
doc (html/txt).

1) Your using php5.x, so strange things will happen.

2) The left pane (navigation) is controlled by /templates/yourstyle/admin/index_navigate.tpl. Make sure that file is there, and it is not corrupt.

3) Make sure that all you admin files are uploaded to the /admin folder

The left side uses info from every file in the admin directory. So a mistake in any one of them can cuase an issue.

1) /templates/SubSilver/admin/index_navigate.tpl is there and not corrupted, as it is from the original 2.0.16 installation

2) Checked all the files edited, everything as per instruction:

## admin/admin_ug_auth.php
## admin/admin_users.php
## includes/bbcode.php
## includes/functions.php
## includes/functions_validate.php
## includes/usercp_activate.php
## includes/usercp_avatar.php
## includes/usercp_viewprofile.php
## privmsg.php
## templates/subSilver/faq_body.tpl
## viewtopic.php

3) Here is the "source" of the blank navigation pane as seen by browser, if this could help:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Frameset//EN">
<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>phpBB Administration</TITLE>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type
content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></HEAD><FRAMESET border=2 frameSpacing=0
rows=* frameBorder=yes cols=170,*><FRAME name=nav marginWidth=3 marginHeight=3
src="index.php?pane=left&sid=09b8a782553ed83b4c8d5bdaf94d67aa"><FRAME
name=main marginWidth=10 marginHeight=10
src="index.php?pane=right&sid=09b8a782553ed83b4c8d5bdaf94d67aa"></FRAMESET></HTML>

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Please let me know if more information is required so you might be able to help me.

As a last resort: Is there an instruction how to revert back to 2.0.16 (which was working great), or to install fresh 2.0.17 with preserving all users and posts? I have recent database backups, back from 2.0.16.

Great, I have no mods.

Please describe how to do that.
I am only concerned not to lose users and the posts.

If you have no mods, do the following:

1. Save a copy of your existing forum's config.php to your computer.

2. Delete your existing forum, then upload a complete fresh copy of phpBB 2.0.17 to your site. (rename it the same as the old one)

3. Overwrite the new config.php with the one you saved to your computer.

4. Delete the contrib and install folders

You should be in business after those steps...
