This is not a bug, I also had this problem and solved it easily.

You need to contact your server and get your smtp settings.

Allright I will try that, I tested two free smtp clients but they didn't worked so well. Just seems so odd that there ar so many with this problem (that u have to use your smtp)

Is there a way to register without using e-mail ? I guess not...

There are ways that you can remove the email function, but I stronglt suggest that you find an SMTP server instead.

It's not a bug, and it has nothing to do with phpBB. It is your server. Ask your ISP if they have an SMTP server you can use.

For example, I try with gmail.com & yahoo.com, and phpBB "send message".
I check mail for new messages and nothing! No messages!

Then I try with providers SMTP server, and nothing again! I get this
message all the time:
Ran into problems sending Mail. Response: 550 Relay not permitted! Try using ASMTP + TLS! or something like that...

Any solution?

OK becasue I deleted the whole board and upgraded to the latest and now all is working...

i use bluebottle that has smtp and pop3

but i was testing it min a go see what it well do you can send emails and pm's

useing a bluebottle email

but don't have Use SMTP Server for emai

Admin Email Address

I was having this same problem. My web host is yahoo.com. Originally I had my yahoo email address as my admin email address (in the ACP) and was getting this error. I then signed up for a bluebottle address and set that as admin email address in ACP and still got the error. I've tried using bluebottle's SMTP settings and that didn't work. I emailed yahoo for their SMTP settings and they said they don't support SMTP for php (or something like that). I then asked them for help in general on the error and they said they don't provide support for phpBB (and a list of other stuff) please contact the vendor. I tried resetting the admin email addy in ACP again to my bluebottle account and disabling SMTP to see if it would work, but I'm still getting the following error:

I think I may be at the point where I need to just disable email functions from the boards. What are the ramifications of that and how would I go about doing it?

dont really need a SMPT or what ever, im using my pop3 account, you just need to properly refrance the incoming and outgoing, if your pop3 email provider supports this. like verizon adsl

simply outgoing.verizon.net for me aswell as the account info.

Ok, I've tried setting Use SMTP server to yes and entering my bluebottle pop3 information with no success .

I had already tried setting use SMTP server to no and setting my bluebottle address as my admin address in ACP. That caused an error to be returned on PMs. I have also tried setting use SMTP server to yes and entering my bluebottle SMTP information with no success.
