Hacked?

I've just looked at my webspace and i'm pretty sure phpbb doesnt include files called masslol.txt, oracle.2 and in the cgi-bin a file called entropy banner.cgi

Also, what do .htaccess files do? Is this what is allowing access by a hacker to my space? Should I delete them?

Sorry a little OT i mean this could be any website problem not just a phpbb one but hey ho, any help appreciated.

No, those files are not included with phpBB. HOwever there is a .htaccess file in the cache folder. If you want info on htaccess files, you should ask google

What version of phpBB are you running?

The latest one, i updated yesterday but before then it was 2.0.15, i've not left it long really between checking. I've done some readong on htaccess since panic posting and have actually just deleted the offending files out of caution...but if anyone knows anymore i'd be interested.
