Private Messages

Post by AndyP85 » Fri Sep 23, 2005 10:04 pm

Is it possible for an Administrator to view private messages between members of a forum. I think it is not possible?

Thanks AndyP UK

Yes AndyP85,

It is possible, however you should install a mod, which can be found here.

Should you need any further info, please do not hesitate to ask.

Good Luck.

AndyP85, you should inform your users that you will be doing this. Not only because it is the right think to do, but also because it is the law is certain places.

Yes, it can be pretty unethical to do it, I suggest that you do mention a few lines about it in a notice or in your user agreeements, should you have one.

Yes.. I agree. But just to clarify matters, I run a taxi trade forum & we have a rival forum that appears to be viewing the pm's of it's members there.

I was asked by one of my members if it is indeed possible to to view pm's and I wasn't sure This is why I asked about it here.

And to prove my total innocence  view the matter here http://www.thecabbyforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=664

Thanks AndyP UK

You dont even need a mod, a mod just makes it easier.

All the information is stored in the database in plain text, just browse through the tables, connect the user ids to the message IDs, and thats it.
Admin ToolKit v2.1a - An Admins most helpful tool for user management. Now Supports Mass User Deletion!
Change User's: names, passwords, emails, active status and avatar/pm permissions.
Ban/Unban Users, change Post and Resync Counts, and promote/demote users to admin.
Completely independent from your phpbb user account settings. No installation required, just upload one file.
User Upload ToolKit Beta - A quick and easy, 30 second-install, attachment mod. Now Supports Dynamic Thumbnails!
