Changing user names

I have changed my user name on a forum but when I try to change back to my original user name the following appears:
Sorry, but this username has already been taken.

Should I be able to change back to a previous user name? Might this be a browser or history issue?

(sorry if this has been discussed before, I can't get the search function here to work right now.)

OK, I figured this out, although I don't understand it.

In may this year a user registered using my user name even though I was already registered with the name. They made no posts. So when I changed my user name and then tried to change back it found their existing user name (which was actually mine!!!) and disallowed it.

Would the use of Caps affect this at all? Weird.

Usernames aren't case sensitive.
Just rename the user who never posted and then you should be able to use your old username again.

That's what's so weird. My user name from November last year has always been until one day ago "Lemon"

In May (I've just discovered) he registered as "lemon"
