Modding a Document

Post by Game Snakes » Fri Jan 27, 2006 1:01 pm

wasnt sure where to post this, but this is a general question about MODs not about a specific MOD so thought it most appropriate here.

In a MOD it has asked me to do this :

Code: Select all

#-----[ FIND ]------------------------------------------
#
<td colspan="2"><hr /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2"><span class="postbody">{postrow.MESSAGE}{postrow.SIGNATURE}</span><span class="gensmall">{postrow.EDITED_MESSAGE}
#
#-----[ AFTER ADD ( DIRECTLY INLINE]---------------
#
<br/>
</script>
<select name="menu">
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
</select>
<a href="Javascript:jumpMenu()"><IMG SRC="http://www.yourdomain/images/go.gif" border=0></a>
</form>
#
only prob is i dunno wat the AFTER ADD part means. where do i add the new code?

it means u add the following code straight after the class="gensmall">{postrow.EDITED_MESSAGE} bit like this..

Code: Select all

<td colspan="2"><hr /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2"><span class="postbody">{postrow.MESSAGE}{postrow.SIGNATURE}</span><span class="gensmall">{postrow.EDITED_MESSAGE} <br/>
</script>
<select name="menu">
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
<option value="http://www.domain.com">Title</option>
</select>
<a href="Javascript:jumpMenu()"><IMG SRC="http://www.yourdomain/images/go.gif" border=0></a>
</form>

Downloading / backup / editing / uploading is the most common method.

You can check out EasyMOD if you want,
http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB22/viewforum.php?f=15
which provides an automatic way of installing MODs from the ACP (though its still in beta).

It is smart to keep a complete backup of your forum on your hard drive. The files and the database.
Also, it might be a good Idea to keep a change log of all mods installed on your forum, and keep a copy of the mods in a seperate folder.
Backup, backup, backup, and document, document, document.
It could save you down the road.
