ok, 2 more problems. when i upload my gif avatar, it shows up on the forum with a white background, as a jpg would. i know it's definately gif, i used it on almost every forum. anyone know why this might be happening?

- also, while i'm at it, so i don't have to make a bunch of separate topics, how do i change the little icon that would appear in the toolbar on firefox? (if you know what i mean)

you have to edit your graphic in a grphics program and make it transparent. it has a white border background, so that is why it shows that way.

the icon you are referring to is called a favicon, here is info about it.

every pic i try to upload, whether from my own computer or a link, comes up with white background. i know they are gif's, i make them myself and use them on every other forum. i'm using the exact same one i use everywhere else, but they keep showing up looking like jpegs, when i upload them to my profile on my forum.

ok, first, jpgs don't automatically have a white background. the file type has nothing to do with it.

just because you are making them , doesn't mean you are doing it correctly.

have you been making the background transparent?
that is what you have to do .

you can make a hundred gifs and if you don't tell it to make the background transparent, they will all have a white ( or some other color ) background that shows when put on a not white page.

there is nothing wrong with the phpbb that causes this.

luck,
robert

yes, i know how to make them transparent. look here: http://www.vnvforum.com/members.php?mod ... e4ba22185e

this image has NO background. it is a gif with a transparent background. i use this image everywhere and never have a problem with it. i am trying to upload the exact same image to this other forum. It is not the image. There has to be something wrong in this forum i'm trying to upload it to http://angelsandagony-forum.com

does anyone think it might be a result of the size of images I'm allowing?

Maximum Avatar File Size: 25,000

Maximum Avatar Dimensions: 100x100

:?: :(

edit: see my avatar here? this is the exact same one i use everywhere else and never have a problem. there is no white background, it is a gif with transparent background..

Are you talking about the tiny little white box?
Your source code indicates that table is blank:

Code: Select all

<table width="" border="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" cellspacing="3">
  <tr>
    <td></td>
	</tr>
</table>

	</div></td>
  </tr>
</table>
If so, it's not even trying to put an image there.

If you switch back to subSilver, does your avatar show up?

no, not the tiny white box. when i upload an avatar, yes it shows up, but on with a big white box behind it.

what he meant is that the tiny white box is where the avatar goes and that tiny white box should not be there........ and if it sticks your avatar in that tiny white box expanding then tats why you will have a white background.

well first check he is right by doing as he said...switch to subsilver and test to see if the avatar works correctly and then you know the error is with the template

ok, i switched to subsilver and the avatar uploaded fine.

so it must be something wrong in my ad infinitum template...

yup...tis has now become a style problem.....you may want to contact the template author or ask in the styles forum.....best place to get help with the template..... Have you done any recent editing in the tpl files for that template or has this problem occured since you got the template
