How to order the images in the avatar gallery

Post by rockersquirrel »

I have all my images named by number card_01.gif, card_02.gif, etc...hoping that they will display left to right in the table according to their name, but this is not happening. There doesn't seem to be any order to the images. How can I order them?

This is all very odd. I would think, logically, that it would be ordered by image name, yet it is not.

Can anyone else tell me how their avatar gallery's images are ordered?

Hi,

As far as I knew, and have in my forums, they are ordered in the same way as shown/listed on the hosts server...

There is no utility I know of that orders avatars in the gallery.

You may wish to post a request in the MOD requests forum as they may have some ideas for you there...

Do you think it could be a problem with my server? Some type of server setting?

Hi,

It could be, you could always mail a question to the host to see if they have a reasonable explaination...

Take a look on your server and see if the images are in the same order as they are in the gallery when you click on the link to show the gallery.

On my site, they are in the same order in the forum as they are on the server (number, then alaphbetical, and ascending).

On my server, looking via ftp, they are in the correct order (sequentially), not the order in which they appear in the gallery.

They all have the same time stamp as well, so that can't be it.

My hair is going to fall out soon..this makes absolutely no sense. All I can imagine is that in the php code somwhere, the line of code that tells it how to order itself is corrupt. (Unless there is no code..)

twilight zone here..

Are you using subSilver, or a different template?

If you are not using subSilver, try switching back to it and see if they are arranged as they are on the FTP server.

Do some start with caps and some not? I believe it is case sensitive and will list it alphabetically by ones with a capital first letter, and then alphabetically by the ones that aren't started in caps. That's how the files look in my Cpanel File Manager, and my FTP program arranges them in a correct alphabetical order. I don't know if phpbb reads it like this, but it's worth checking into.

Nope. They are all exactly the same..lower case, underscore, two digit number.

I am using a different template, but tried switching back to subSiver and it is still arranged incorrectly.

So, before this image sorting problem happened, this forum was setup on another server just to configure the templates and test it out. I just moved it to it's new home today and couldn't get the export template function to work, so I

1. installed the forum and attachement mod on new server.
2. pasted over all the old php and tpl files (really, everything but the config.php file since that had new db connection info).

Ever since then, on the new server, the images aren't in order. They were on the last...

The server specs are identical. (It's actully the same provider, different machine).

Does that give anyone some clues as to what this could be?

I contacted my server and they had no idea what i was talking about (actually kept telling me the avatars for phpbb are strored in the database)..but obviously that isn't the case.

I think the only thing different, is that this new forum is now using an IP as the domain name hasn't propegated yet.
