Post by team mom »

Hi, I am new so please dont yell at me, lol.

We have just started a site fopr our youth ass. and I can not figure out how to make it where you MUST be registerd to use post on the board.

It is currently allowing guest to post and I would like to fix that.
I honestly dont knwo what you may neeed to know to assist me with fixing this but the board says the we are running phpBB 2.0.13.

I want people to have to register to enable them to post on it.
Please help me thanks,

I dont know about the upgrade as for I am just helping her with the site. We are a youth association working on a budget so if cost anything differant to upgrade that may be why we are so far behind.

As for the help with the allowing guest post thing I have tried the control panel for that says user admin and tried fooling with permissions.
It is not doing anything for me. It will let me type in guest as a user name and dis allow that username. It did not work tho I signed out and tried to post and it still lets me.

These are the options I have for User admin and none of them will help me with changing that setting or whatever.

Ban Control
Disallow names
Management
Permissions
Ranks

Is our version to old to not allow a guest to post?

It costs nothing to upgrade. PhpBB software is free.

As for the permissions, you want forum permissions, not user permissions.

admin control panel
forum admin
permissions
set all the forums to registered.

I will run the updates then if they are free. We just started the board I wander why we would be so outdated already. We have not even been up a month yet.

Are there any reasons I would not want to update?

About the registerd thing for making things hidden to guest. I just found it thanks to all of your help.
If I just mark registerd then it will only let registerd users reply and post but if I mark them registerd [hidden] then they will not even be allowed to see it?
I am struggeling with images and avatars as well but I will save it for tommorow, lol...

Thanks so much guys

No, updating is very important, and not very difficult as long as you follow the instructions (linked above)

Guests can't post. And that sucks. Most importantly, Why would the say that guests can post if they can't?

guest can post, it all depends on the forum permissions.

and you may want a private forum away from guests.
it also stops anonymous SPAM
