Need help restoring my database.... if it's even possible

Post by disconnect » Sat Apr 01, 2006 3:12 pm

Hello there

Let me start by saying I did do a search for related topics on this forum and many other forums. I am unable to find anything that helps me solve this awful problem I am having. If after reading my issue, you have any places you can point me too for answers please do, and I apologise if I have overlooked a related post.

Okay, so this morning I thought it would be a good idea to install phpbb2 since we have been running an older version of it for quite some time now ( tried the patch once and it didnt work). I installed the new version with no problems (I had to give it a new DB name and what not, it wouldnt use the exsisting DB from the old forum for some reason). Now, my problem is that I thought perhaps I could just copy the data from the old DB to the new DB without problems by using myPHPADMIN. Unfortunatly, my lack of knowledge with myPHPADMIN led me to make a horrible mistake somewhere along the line. Now, the old forum doesnt work and I cannot get into the admin panel to restore it. I should note that I did back up the forum before I started all of this, but i backed it up within the phpbb admin panel, not myPHPADMIN. I see now after reading the forums, I should have done the myPHPADMIN first.

I guess my questions are as follows, is there anyway I can either

a) get my backup file (the one from within the phpbb admin panel) reloaded into the old forum so it works again

b)get my back up file into the new phpbb2 I installed (every time i try to load this backup file within the admin panel it gives me tons of errors)

c)somehow put this backup file into myPHPADMIN

I have a new forum up and running, but i would really hate to lose over a year of posts and members. Im sure you can all understand my frustration and stress :( . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Chris.

Below is the error i see when going to the old forum, just incase it's usefull.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

unfortunatly, it was not me who set up the old forum, however, i do have access to it via ftp. Do you know a file i could look at in there to see which version it is?

I just sorta of solved the problem for a second by copying the phpbb_categories table from one db to the other, but then i tried to restore the old db on the old forum, now it shows me this

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not query database for theme info

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3

I just tried to upload my backup file from the old forum to the new forum, after about 5 minutes is says "no file was uploaded"...

the new forum works like a dream.. I sure wish I could get my content back in there though.

if you did not have any MODs installed in the old forum, then the backup you made from the admin panel should work just fine. If it is over 2 MB in size, then the restore function in the admin panel will not work.

let's do this first;

put a copy of your old backup file on the server and PM me a link to it so I can see if everything you need is there.

This is the error

You are missing a necessary table in includes/constants.php.
Find:

Code: Select all

define('SESSIONS_TABLE', $table_prefix.'sessions');
After, add:

Code: Select all

define('SESSIONS_KEYS_TABLE', $table_prefix.'sessions_keys');
