I'm running a fairly heavily modified phpBB 2.0.6 integrated with coppermine gallery and need to upgrade to the latest version. But from what I understand I can't just do so as the database layout has changed? Most of the mods are now standard on phpBB so I'm not too worried about loosing them but I do still need it to work with coppermine gallery.
The reason it hasn't been updated is becuase of the large number of mods that are on it.
They're all fine, they're in the databases which you aren't going to touch except to do a little tweak right at the end with the update_to_latest.php file.
Back up your config.php file before you start.

The problem I had last time I wanted to update was that my files are all so modified that I couldnt do the whole, find this, and replace with this route.
I am not sure if this works, but just a suggestion:
Upgrade as per normal, then reinstall the mods(without further alterations to the db),then link it back to coppermine.
But most importantly,I suggest you back up the config file and the database before doing anything to your forum.
I'm not bothered about the mods, I just can't upgrade as normal becuase of all the mods in there. There's so many that you just don't know which code belongs where.
Ideally what I'd like is to delete all the files and do a clean install of the lastest version and import all data back in but from what I understand I can't do that becuase the dbase layout is now different to what it was in 2.0.6
