I have been a fan of phpBB2 for many years but lately the spambots are flooding my clients sites with as many as 50 a day.

I did my own hack in the code but that did nothing.

They still seem to find their way in and bypass the captua like it was a piece of wet tissue.

Suggestions please.

George

You could try by reading the first post in this topic.

I think the clue to the solution is in the topic title.
Don't you agree Ric?
I can't understand why this topic has dragged on for so many pages and I think it has been pruned at least once. On a daily basis we get folks asking what they can do about the spam bots and yet it is there for all to see directly above their post when they first make it.

Ah well!

hello,

I tried something 3 days ago I dont know how the bots work I was having alot of spam in the last 2 years but I assumed that the program will be set on the link on any phpbb

Code: Select all

profile.php?mode=register&agreed=true
so I replaced the word agreed with another word in usercp_register.php

Code: Select all

"U_AGREE_OVER13" => append_sid("profile.$phpEx?mode=register&agreed=true"),

Code: Select all

"U_AGREE_UNDER13" => append_sid("profile.$phpEx?mode=register&agreed=true&coppa=true")));

Code: Select all

if ( $mode == 'register' && !isset($HTTP_POST_VARS['agreed']) && !isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['agreed']) )

Code: Select all

<input type="hidden" name="agreed" value="true" />
normaly I got like 2-9 everyday

and I didnt have any so far

See this topic. Apparently your method works but isn't 100% reliable.

FWIW I've done the same thing. I figured every lock I put on the door will slow 'em down just that much more.

Craig.

It is where the phpBB forum files are saved on your web server. What is the address of your board?

Use FileZilla to examine the files on your web server, and look in the folder called "forum".
You should see about 8 sub folders, and about 16 files, including "common.php", "config.php", extension.inc" ...

THAT is your forum root folder.
