interesting problem with the forums this morning..

Post by dennismonroe » Thu Oct 05, 2006 1:12 pm

clicked the forums link which worked fine yesterday, and i get this

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not query config information

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1146 Table 'cornerst_p_bb2.phpbb_config' doesn't exist

SELECT * FROM phpbb_config

Line : 219
File : common.php

Now, I havent changed anything since yesterday, but when i logged into myphpadmin I have a second database? and I cant do anything with it, cant view/modify/delete it? I dont know where it came from or why my forums appear to be pointing to it.

Your table phpbb_config is corrupted. You need to repair it with command "repair table phpbb_config"

You can do in phpMyAdmin or in MySQL command prompt.

In phpMyAdmin, go to database, then click the SQL link on top, then enter the code and submit.

This usually indicates that the info in config.php is incorrect
Download that file with ftp and check that it does contain the correct database connection details.

Jim,

This is what i currently have..

<?php

// phpBB 2.x auto-generated config file
// Do not change anything in this file!

$dbms = 'mysql4';

$dbhost = 'localhost';
$dbname = 'cornerst_p_bb2';
$dbuser = 'cornerst_bb2';
$dbpasswd = '*****';

$table_prefix = 'phpbb_';

define('PHPBB_INSTALLED', true);

?>

my actual database name is cornerst_p_bb1 so all i should have to do is take off the 2 and replace with a 1 correct? i tried that but im still getting errors

What about the database username? Is that still correct?
If you are still getting the same error when you are sure that all the info is correct (remember case sensitive) then you will need to contact your host for help.

Try verifying the MySQL login details are correct.

If MySQL access from remote host is allowed, you may try connecting to your MySQL from http://phpmyadmin.hosthat.com and see if you are able to connect to MySQL.

You will not able to view login details in phpMyAdmin. If you have a hosting control panel, that may have option to change MySQL login details.

Ok,

I verified the user information, and entered it into the config file. I uploaded and tried the link and it works. BUT....my second board is completely gone! it appears all users that have been created recently are gone also..the second board is there, but all the posts under it are gone. Now in my initial post i stated that there was a second database listed that i hadnt notice before. Does PHPBB store each sub forum in a seperate database? If so i guess im screwed because i deleted that second database.

phpBB only use one database per forum. May be you have two forum databases and have deleted the LIVE database.

This appears to be what ive done...which sucks because my last backup is from august. Oh well, just called the web provider and they said they can restore a copy for 50 bucks...hard lesson learned.
