Copy and paste the contents of your language/lang_english/lang_main.php into a .txt file and upload it to your server and post a link to it here.

You see, that file won't work because it's not a php file, open a text editor, like notepad, not a word processor like MS Word. Then save the file as 'lang_main.php', not 'langmainphp.doc'.

That was it!
That file had some weird string...must have accidentally passed out on the keyboard or something.
I replaced it with the original, I'm back in.
Fantastic!
Thanks much for the help!

I have tried all the suggestions and none have worked.

I had lost my config file, did a reinstall, uploaded all my files and my db, all works but my admin panel. I get the same thing, I get the redirect listed, and it goes to the index page. If I click on it again, it loades the index also in the frame.

I tried the cookie mode, compared my login, sessions and pagestart pages. I was also told to use the admin toolkit, but it keeps telling me the wrong password. I had to manually change the file, so I do not know why it is telling me wrong pw.

I read somewhere where someone had installed groups and had this problem. I did recently install groups too, but not sure how to undo that being I am not in my admin panel.

Anyways, it's been a month and I am lost. Please help me.

go here to fix the frame in admin cp

Code: Select all

http://www.uploading.com/files/WM2MQ...meset.rar.html

Upload the "index_frameset.tpl" file inside the archive to...
/*forum*/templates/*subSilver*/admin/

(Change text between ** to your details)
Overwrite the file in there and it will display correctly!

poster, please do not follow his advice.

no offense rayminator, but this is your first post and you are sending someone off somewhere else to get a file that they should be getting from here.

this is not a good idea.

poster, if you need a good copy of a phpbb file, you just download the full package zip file from the downloads page here and unzip it and get whatever you need. that is the safe way to do it.

Hi

I installed my forum in September, and I have been experiencing this problem with not being able to login to administration page on and off since then. I don't have anything in the cookies fields, except the 3600, if i change anything when i do manage to get in, after i go back to the board, and try again and i still have the same browser open it causes this problem...only figured this out today whilst scanning this thread, and manipulating what i changed in the database with no luck...so i thought i would try putting in the cookies, which i didn't know how they were meant to be set, but do now as skybee has put them up.

All this said, I have had a lot of spammers..so thought it might be due to them, but now i see it's a common problem and has been for a long time...

Question, my admin says theres a new version, does anyone know if this problem has been addressed in this new release?

Oh and what is cookie secure? and why would it be disabled? cheers :)

I am a newbie but I have to ask are any of you using IIS because if so the mod cookie needs a couple of tweaks. I ran into this problem and fixed it the following way.

Actual settings
Domain name: www.weathertalk.ca
Server port: 80
Script path: /
Cookie Domain: .weathertalk.ca
Cookie path: /
Cookie secure: disabled

Recommended settings
Domain name: localhost
Server port: 80
Script path: /forums/
Cookie Domain: localhost
Cookie path: /forums
Cookie Secure: enabled

Using IIS you will already be in your default folder which means that you will end up with redirection or the directory is invalid.

i finally got it working

Post by adambrooks » Tue Jan 02, 2007 6:33 pm

last week i pretty much whiped all of the files out, kept the database in-tact, downloaded fresh files, uploaded/configured again... and we seem to be working.

in response to a prior post, i am also seeing a terrible number of spa accounts. it's getting almost too much to manage.
