Ranks

Post by bellmaster4 » Thu Nov 30, 2006 4:05 pm

i have downloaded a rank, unzipped it but i dont understand this:

'go to the directory that you have phpBB installed in, and go into the images/ directory '

Where can you install phpBB from, or where might i already have it installed? I dont remember installing it.

Please help. :(

If you are on free hosting and did the install with one of these one click installs then it is unlikely that you will have the ftp access required to do that.
However there is a work around as far as rank images are concerned.
Create the rank and decide on an image. Upload the image to one of the image hosting sites and copy the direct url to the image. Paste that into the path that you have to enter in the set up for that rank.
It will not show in the view there but will show on the actual board.

If you have no ftp access then there is no way that you can add smilies. That little trick just works with Ranks.

Another down side to the free hosting is that at some time you may well want to do some real customisation of your site and will need to move to paid hosting. Most free hosting does not let you make a database backup so you end up either paying the earth for it or starting afresh.

There is some very inexpensive hosting to be had.

We do not recommend hosting as it is considered to be spam.
We suggest you look at www.webhostingtalk.net

Ask your host for a backup of your database and then go to the link Jim posted and find a host with full access eg ftp, mysql. :D
