Invalid Session

Post by pharry » Sun Dec 24, 2006 3:27 pm

I upgraded to 2.0.22 yesterday, and almost immediately I had a member report that she is getting "invalid session" when she tries to post. No one else has reported that problem, though. Any ideas?

Has she tried logging out and logging back in? One of the changes in the update file is a check for a VALID Session when posting and doing other things.

I think she did. But let me check and make sure.

Even I'm having the same problem. My board was perfect prior to the upgrading process. But everytime an user tries to post, the Invalid Session error is displayed which tells you to re-submit the forum. When the form is re-submitted, it works perfectly fine.

I'm pretty sure something is wrong with the update code. Development team should fix the bug as soon as possible.

I have Super Quick Reply MOD installed, and the problem only occured when replying using the QuickReply form.

Here's a way to fix it. Make these changes to "includes/viewtopic_quickreply.php" if you're using Hayk's Super Quick Reply MOD:

Code: Select all

#
#-----[ FIND ]---------------------------------------------
# Line 21
$hidden_form_fields = '<input type="hidden" name="mode" value="reply" />';

#
#-----[ AFTER, ADD ]---------------------------------------------
#
$hidden_form_fields .= '<input type="hidden" name="sid" value="' . $userdata['session_id'] . '" />';
I hope this helps. :mrgreen:

go into your admin panel, change the cookie name to someting different, doesn't matter what,

then log out,

then log back in, everyone else will have to login next time they access the board,

this process forces a new login, therefore forcing a new cookie and therefore setting new session data.

this should solve this problem.

Resetting the cookie will not fix this error. The SID is now hecked when posting so if you have any quick reply MODs installed, they will need to be modified in the way shown above. Other MODs may also interfere with posting due to the SID.

The way posts and PMs are handled was changed slightly, thus MODs affecting those actions will require updates. Quickreply and similar MODs are good examples for that. Sorry.

I'm confused - what needs to be done? Renaming the cookie did not work. Is there something else you are asking me to do?

After applying that code change, mine is working fine. It isn't showing up any "Invalid Session" error now.

Do you have any MODs installed? If yes, please tell me the names of all MODs you have installed.

Only then I'll be able to tell you how to solve the problem.

No, I don't think I have any MODS installed. I did add the code to hide inactive members in the member list. But that is all I've done as far as tinkering with phpbb.
