Turning off registration

Post by matthewseymour »

Hi,

Does anyeone know if it is possible to turn off registration on PHPbb. We are getting lots of false registrations and we would like to switch off registration for new users but allow existing users to continue to access the board.

Thanks.

For a quick fix In the ACP, Disallow (NOT Ban) the username "*" (without quotes).

To help with your bot registration problem read the sticky at the top of this Forum. Consider adding the simple VIP-code MOD which you'll find mentioned there.

Good luck

look in the configuration of the ACP, you should see "Enable account activation" and just turn that to admin, they cant create an account with out you approving it.

They can make accounts. They just aren't turned on unless an admin clicks the email link.

A lot of spambots just want to make an account and that's it. They're taking advantage of google rank back linking.
