hi,

i'm curious if it is safe to install some of mod that not on the php mod list?

like Categories Hierarchy by Ptirhiik.. coz this mod is just awsome.. but i find its quite difficult to install manually. but i'm interested to the features.. just wonder if that safe..

if it isnt safe, please recommend me where to find a similar mod that can use/manage category & forum like Ptirhiik chmod does?

MOD questions need to be asked in the MOD forum. If it is from phpbb.com, ask in the MOD release topic. If from elsewhere, ask there.

what i'm asking is. either this mod is recommended by phpbb team or not. i'm sure they've more info about this mod if it is secure or not. i've no idea at all so i'm asking here. if i ask at Ptirhiik web of course he'll said it's safe right? I just want to make my self sure about what i'm doing right now...

sorry if i've posted on wrong forum.

I have been using CH for the past two years....even when it was RC stage.

Yeah, it's safe.

When a MOD has been released then it can be considered safe. Of course, vulnerabilities can come to light at a later date, but all good MOD authors support and update their MODs as necessary.

The OP is talking about the MODDB here on phpbb.

As to why it isn't in there, haven't a clue...probably because Pierre doesn't want to be bothered with formatting according to the validator on phpbb.

Oh, right!

The bottom line is that CH is a widely used MOD by a highly respected author that is fully supported. Use or don't - it's up to you...

Category Hierarchy does have some compatibility issues with some other Mods; you could probably post your problems in the topic of that other mod.

What other mods are you planning on using?

Your other option is to wait for phpBB3 to come out. It has subforums built in.
It's ready when it's ready but RC1 (the first version you can use live) doesn't look too far off.

The 2.1.6 version of CH changes a lot of the coding of a vanilla phpbb (ie compare viewtopic.php from phpbb and viewtopic.php from CH 2.1.6). CH also includes many items that aren't found in a vanilla phpbb.

Topic icons for one.

Many mods will not work, but many mods have been adapted as well over at CH's forum.

Which can be found here
