that error means that you have a mistake in the fix file that you are running.

start over and only use a plain text editor to paste that fix.php file into, then only use a real ftp program to upload it.

Of course i use Notepad for my programming and file editing. By using programs like Dreamweaver, I cannot learn the code myself and therefore result in more problems because I don't understand the material. I also use the CP from the host to upload my files.

I will retry the fix.php file.

We have seen occasional problems from both cp-type upload and editing programs. If you continue to experience difficulty with the file, try a true ftp program like Filezilla.

using any control-panel install/update is like shooting yourself in the foot. It won't kill you, but you're really going to hobble around until it heals.
Using the wrong tools (Front Page, DreamWeaver) gives the same results

My CP file manager works fine so there is no need for me to try another client.

if everything you were doing was working fine, then you would not have an error.

why do you ask for help , then argue about the advice given you?

It may not be your editor or your ftp, however, those are the most common cause of this type of problem.

If you are using notepad then that eleminates the text editor.
Hosting control panel file managers are notorious for causing the very problem.
How about just humouring us and trying again with a real ftp program.

I later started a topic on my particular problem because it seemed that, even though this thread seemed to be similar to my problem it wasn't. I eventually found out I needed to repair a number of the tables in the database, which corrected the problem. Thank you for your help...thought you might like to know how I made out. BTW, all is well now. <g>
