How do I pause membership?

Post by WebGal » Wed Mar 21, 2007 12:18 am

I don't want to disable the board but I want to put a halt to members registering until I get some things ironed out. Is there a way to do this? I've looked and tried some things.

Hi there,

Can't you just go into the Configuration and set "Enable account activation" to None.
The board will still be active, but new user registration will not be allowed.

All that does is disable account activation (bad thing for most people) but will still allow registration.

Put a single asterisk (*) in the Disallow usernames list (NOT the BAN list).. No o ne will be abke to register.

Reble's suggestion is not only wrong, but harmful.

In ACP, put a single asterisk (*) in the Disallow usernames list (NOT the BAN list).. No one will be able to register.

There is no such setting. You can disable the whole board, but that is not what's being asked.

It looks like the * did the trick. Thank you.

It was the easiest so I tried it first.

I love the look of the new phpbb forum. Very clean.
