I've been reading through this thread and what I have tried to do is ban 'Guest' from posting messages (as detailed in the first posting). I went to; Forum Admin, Permissions, and under Simple Mode changed the drop down to Registered, then clicked Submit.....but I can still post under 'Guest'

I am obviously overlooking something silly

Thanks,

If you use one of the mods that hides people in the member list who haven't posted, this won't be a problem. You'll have the registration in the database, but their web link won't be publicly viewable unless they are contributing to your forum. This mod http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=262393 is one of them that does that.

Oh, it's good :D but not THAT good :D :D

The user who was trying to modify their website address was not on the first page of most recent registrations. I naturally only check the most recent page, not subsequent pages. Had my board accepted this profile change (which it didnt), I probably wouldnt have realised it unless I had gone to page 2.

My system is set this way - but I also set it to notify me if there is an attempt to modify a website address in a profile by a user with 0 posts. Yesterday was the first time I had seen it in action.

I threw that sample code up as a beta mod with some simple instructions how to use it.

450 spam names

Post by lightwait »

I have 450 names on my forum that I don't want.

Can I get rid of my whole username list and start over? How do I do this?

Thanks in advance,

Keith

If you submitted it as it is in that download, I daresay it will be denied.

1) Author line is incorrectly formatted
2) Missing the security disclosure
3) Missing included file line
4) Version should be 1.2.1 not 1.1.1
5) Language is hardcoded (instead of defined in language files)
I also don't believe that you can submit a MOD for someone else.

Here is a more compliant copy: http://www.marshalrusty.com/phpBB/vip.mod
You'll need to fill in the username and email on top

:D Thanks - this is exactly what I needed for the useless registrations. I just installed the mod and I will give you an update in a couple weeks on the effectiveness, but I suspect it will do the trick.

Great MOD!

Is there a way to replace the location of the VIP code with a link that opens in a new window?

Thanks

Sorry for not making myself clear - yes, on the registration form instead of saying go to this page, I would like a link that could be clicked to take you to that page/topic that would open in a new window.

This would mean that people would not get frustrated after filling in the first part of the form, to find that they have to go elsewhere and then come back to start the form again.

Assuming that you used my version, change:

Code: Select all

$lang['vip_spam_location'] = 'You can find a valid <b>VIP code</b> on the WebSite-Watcher Support page!';
to:

Code: Select all

$lang['vip_spam_location'] = 'You can find a valid <b>VIP code</b> <a href="http://www.google.com">here</a>';

Now how do I keep this from happening? Is there a way? I am a novice and find it difficult to change code—I am not yet at that place of understanding.

Thanks,

Keith
