Ric/Sharpo,

All points noted and I am trying one last thing with teh database. They did move me to a new server which they said was not compatible with the version of MySQl that was on it, donno what that means but that's what they said.

Will update you shortly.

/install/schema

Open your database schema. That file has the default phpbb tables.

Compare and remove as needed if you really need to do this

take a look at this mod
John (A cranky old man. "Looking for an echo ...")
using any control-panel install/update is like shooting yourself in the foot. It won't kill you, but you're really going to hobble around until it heals.
Using the wrong tools (Front Page, DreamWeaver) gives the same results

I guess I am SOL. I uploaded the DB and can't access it with phpmyadmin, keeps asking me for a password. I have the DB locally on my system, what tool can I use to rip this up. I am about to toss these 2 systems out the window.

I think i'm gonna take a break and go see Live Free and Die Hard (again). This is slightly ticking me off.

Thanks for the responses and help in this issue. I tried all possible fixes and to no avail. All I need is to maintain the forum structure and the users and posts :-(.

Is that asking for too much?

Hi all,

Through the awesome help of this new hosting provider I signed up with I was able to get the database backup inserted into a new databse and now I have access to the data again. I even optimized the tables.

Now I am trying to rebuild the board and I am getting this error,

Code: Select all

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/theit6/public_html/forum/phpBB2/db/mysql4.php on line 48

Warning: mysql_error(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/theit6/public_html/forum/phpBB2/db/mysql4.php on line 330

Warning: mysql_errno(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/theit6/public_html/forum/phpBB2/db/mysql4.php on line 331
phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database
I can access the database via phpmyadmin but not when trying to setup the board.

Any suggestions?

Thanks to all who gave there input, suggestions and comments.

Your config.php file needs to be edited to reflect the new database information.
I can stop all your spam. I can upgrade or update your Board. PM or email me. (Paid support)

Man, you just have to love a hosting company that is willing to help a customer out through such problems. My new hosting company has been awesome and now I have my board back up and running at 90%.

One new problem.

When I try to log in I get the Could not connect to the databse error still. I was able to register new accounts and get the registration confirmation message. When I click on the link to activate the account I get that critical could not connect error again.

I thing I didn't mention. Now that I am with a different hosting company and they have a different username policy, the username for the original database is different from this one, could that be the problem event though I am not able to see, open and edit the database?

Your thoughts.

Yes, you should have your new database username in your config.php file.
It would also be a good idea to run the auto cookie mod to ensure your pathnames are correct, or it could end up sending you back to your old forum.
