Critical Error Could not update user theme info [SOLVED]

Post by Ozzie Gal » Fri Dec 07, 2007 11:46 am

The following is the basic SRT
Your board's URL: http://www.ozzieshopper.biz/phpBB2/index.php
Version of phpBB2: 2.0.22
Was this a fresh install or a(n) update/upgrade/conversion (please be specific)? No
Was this an install through your host? Fantastico
MODs you have installed: EM, Page permissions, Admins/Mods color management, attachment mod, disable censors, Birthday mod, Ip only by admin, modcp-1.0.5, Search Bot Indexing Mod, Online/Offline, Stop Spambot Registration.
When the problem started: 4th Dec, after installing extreme styles mod & simple sub forums, both have been removed since I received a Fatal error msg which I have since rectified, now receiving the following error message

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not update user theme info

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3

Additionally, you may wish to provide the following (where applicable)
Template(s) used: subSilver
Language(s) used: English
Version of PHP used: 5.2.4
Database and version used: MySQL 5.0.45

I have searched the forums here for the past couple of days but was unable to find a solution for the specific error. I initially posted a message in the mod support forum for the simple subforums mod, have not received any replies so uninstalled the mod and now have the above error.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm not sure where to look now to find out how to fix this.

Cheers
Ros

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

This is the whole error message

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not update user theme info

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3

and as I stated I removed the 2 mods I installed to bring the board back to what it was before the mods were added, I have added other mods in the past generally without any problems, however even after uploading my backup via phpMyadmin I still end up with the above error. I am trying to get my board back to it's normal state.

Thanks
Ros

For some additional information, when I installed the extreme styles mod my board was fine and was operating normally, however when I finished installing the simple subforums mod I had the following error message
Fatal error: Call to undefined function encode_ip() in/home/xxxxx/public_html/phpBB2/common.php on line 216

I removed both mods and am now getting the error message relating to this thread

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not update user theme info

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 3

Hope that helps to clarify things.
I have received no response in the simple subforums mod thread, hence why I removed the mod. All files should be how they were before I installed the mods yet they are not.

Regards
Ros

I have also followed the instructions to set subSilver as the default template as provided in this thread http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article/set-sub ... -template/

however even after creating and running that file I am still getting the same message.

This may sound stupid but what operating system are you using? I ask because that is a very common Linux and Unix error that corresponds to file permissions.

The server my board is running on is Linux.

I have always run my boards on Linux and never had this problem before!

Would this error relate more to an error in the user tables?

usually the error message will tell you what file it is trying to run that is throwing the error.

if it is not showing the file in your message, then we can maybe figure out which one it is when we know exactly when the error happens.

how about a link to the board.

sorry about that.

this error comes from functions.php where it is trying to decide which style you have chosen so it can use that style for the board.

so, we are back to needing to setup the default style and overriding the user choice.
try this:
assuming that subSilver is still installed, copy the following into a text file and save as fix.php

upload to the server , run it in your browser and then delete it.

Code: Select all

<?php

define('IN_PHPBB', true);

$phpbb_root_path = './';
include($phpbb_root_path . 'extension.inc');
include($phpbb_root_path . 'config.'.$phpEx);
include($phpbb_root_path . 'includes/constants.'.$phpEx);

echo '<h1>reset style to subSilver</h1><BR><BR>';

if( !defined("PHPBB_INSTALLED") )
{
	echo 'Error: phpBB is not Installed!';
	die;
}

if( ($dbms != 'mysql') && ($dbms != 'mysql4') )
{
	echo 'Error: This Fix only works with a MySQL Database';
	die;
}

$db = mysql_connect($dbhost,$dbuser,$dbpasswd);

if(!$db)
{
	echo 'Error: Could not connect to the MySQL Server';
	die;
}

$dbs = mysql_select_db($dbname);

if(!$dbs)
{
	echo 'Error: Could not select Database';
	die;
}
echo 'Updating default style';

echo '<br>';

$query = "UPDATE ".CONFIG_TABLE." SET config_value = '1' WHERE config_name = 'override_user_style' LIMIT 1";
$result = mysql_query($query,$db);

echo 'Updating Override User Style: ';

if(!$result)
{
	 echo '<font color="#FF0000">FAILED</font>';
}
else
{
	if(mysql_affected_rows($db)=='0')
	{
		echo '<font color="#999999">NOT UPDATED</font>';
	}
	else
	{
		echo '<font color="#009933">SUCCESS</font>';
	}
}

echo '<BR>';

$query = "UPDATE ".CONFIG_TABLE." SET config_value = '1' WHERE config_name = 'default_style' LIMIT 1";
$result = mysql_query($query,$db);

echo 'Changing Default Theme ID: ';

if(!$result)
{
	 echo '<font color="#FF0000">FAILED</font>';
}
else
{
	if(mysql_affected_rows($db)=='0')
	{
		echo '<font color="#999999">NOT CHANGED</font>';
	}
	else
	{
		echo '<font color="#009933">SUCCESS</font>';
	}
}

echo '<BR><BR><b>Delete this File from your Server!</b>';

OK have run the file and this is the result

reset style to subSilver

Updating default style
Updating Override User Style: NOT UPDATED
Changing Default Theme ID: NOT CHANGED

Delete this File from your Server!

I have deleted the file, still the same error message.

OK I've uploaded a fresh copy of function.php and that error has now been fixed, however now when I go to mt admin panel my forum index comes up in both the left and right panes, would this be because of the other mods I have installed? Will it correct itself when I enter the edits for the mods that go in the functions.php file?
