no registration email to user or admin --General error

Post by erosion » Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:54 pm

After a user trys to register and submits the form, this message is shown:
General Error
Could not connect to smtp host : 0 : Success

DEBUG MODE

Line : 112
File : smtp.php

What does it need?
How do I fix this?
Anyone got a clue?

That means what it says.
You have set phpBB to use an SMTP server to send emails, but it cannot connect to the server you have specified.
Have you tried setting "Use SMTP" to "NO", to just use the built in PHP mail function?
Otherwise, if you have to use SMTP, is this an SMTP server supplied by your web host? Have you entered exactly the connection information they supplied to you?

Why has user ulrome asked almost the same question about the same board?

well, I just tried it and the I got this message:
Failed sending email :: PHP ::

DEBUG MODE

Line : 234
File : emailer.php

Can this be fixed or will I have to use SMTP?
I have tried to use SMTP with the correct ( ithink ) details, but the server refused a connection?

Have a read of Knowledge Base - Explanation and solutions for emailer.php line 234 error

Some hosts require that the "From" Address on your emails is the same as your board's domain name.
This is th e"Admin Email Address" you set in the ACP.

Otherwise, what SMTP details are you using? They should be ones supplied by your web host, not your ISP, unless both are the same company.

So use the SMTP details from your web host.

Same problem :(
Tried the build in mail function...error with email.php
I was wandering if it has something to do with the Numeric value of the File attributes (i`m using File zilla to upload to the provider).
I read alot and decided to try the SMTP server.
Checked the "Use SMTP"
entered Server smtp.gmail.com
user mymail.gmail.com
pass
but... same error with the smtp.php this time..
Am i missing something, or need additional configuration...
Or suggest some free smtp servers to try with :(

gmail will not work, it uses a different system than phpbb.

you will not find a free smtp server that will work for this.

where is your board?

why doesn't your host provide email services?
