Allow File Uploads/Downloads?

Post by darone » Sun Apr 06, 2008 8:44 pm

I'm running my forum on 2.0.23 and I want to make a separate section of the forum where I can upload files for my members to download and comment on. What's the easiest/best way to do that? Would that be with the attachment function?

You could do it with the attachment MOD, then just specify only 1 forum to allow the posting of attachments in.
From what I remember about the phpBB2 permissions, you can make it admin/mod only for posting but still allow all registered users to download :)

That MOD should work just fine and is a good MOD. However, the author is missing in action and his site has been down for a long time. So, you probably won't get much support for his MODs right now.

Yes, that is exactly what I want. If I want, do I have an option to let my members upload stuff, too? I think I want to start out with just the admins having that ability, but I may want members to upload as well later if things go well. Thanks!

this one is full of security holes and should not be installed unless you can find an updated version of it.

this is going to be the best of the bunch to use.

the attachment MOD is huge and is probably more than you need or want to install.

however, if you just want to upload files and link to them in a post.

just do that.

create an uploads folder on your server, use ftp to upload the files like normal,

and then just link to them in a post so people can download them.

Yep, you just change the forum permission to REG instead of ADMIN/MOD :)

I tried the Upload Toolkit and that's not what I'm looking for. It's really easy and great, but I want something more like the attachment mod. I tried to download that one and it's gone. I'm using phpBB 2.0.23 - what should I use? I want people to be able to attach files to new threads and be able to discuss. Thanks for the help!

The attachment mod is your best bet, it can be downloaded here http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 28#p436728

Thanks! Do I just upload the files and then go to the install folder? It doesn't have a readme or anything in the zip file. I'm also not an expert at installing mods - I'm very much a beginner. Help!

It is not for the feint hearted that is for sure. :D
For a board that does not have any other mods installed there are pre-modded files for subSilver but if you have a different template then you still have quite a bit of work to do.

Unfortunately they will not let you anywhere near it!
