Weird overall_header.tpl file

Post by E.Isolation » Tue Apr 15, 2008 4:07 am

Okay, I don't know if this is the right forum or not for this question...

I am trying to install some mods (total beginner), and when I went to edit this overall_header.tpl file, it looks like this:

What is going on?

Any other phpBB file I open is fine and shows me the code text. Every copy of this file I've tried looks like this.

Do NOT edit any phpbb file with an html editor.
You MUST do it with a plain text editor, or you will damage the file.

Notepad and Wordpad are ok on Windows PCs, but I guess you are using a Mac.
You can find better alternatives at: Knowledge Base - Tools needed to set up and customise phpBB

Thanks. I will check out your link.

I am using the simple "Text Edit" program, and used it to install two mods already and edited the rest of the files in the mod I am currently working on. I thought it was just a plain text editor program like Notepad.

Okay, now that you got me thinking more about my text editor, I did a little searching and found there is a Textedit preferences setting : "Ignore rich text commands in HTML files", which when selected, the file opens properly.
I think everything is alright now.
Thanks for the help.
