Snitz to phpbb

Post by Jason G » Tue Jun 17, 2003 7:36 am

Hi,

I have an old Snitz forum that I'd like to convert to phpbb. In other words, I'd like to grab the 11,000+ posts and all of the members from the Snitz forum and input them into the phpbb forum. Is this possible?

Regards,
Jason Gastrich

I used to use Snitz also - good luck.

Please don't ask me for support, I am almost 98% sure there is a converter there.

You can use my convertor: http://snitz2phpbb.sourceforge.net
(was http://mraluca.go.ro/snitz2phpbb2.htm but apparently this is most of the time down).

There are also other convertors available. You should try the search function to find other topics related on this problem.

Hi,

Thanks for the converter link.

I went to your site and couldn't find the converter. It was in another language, too.

An important note is that your DB should be in MySQL if you have a DB in Access like I did then you need to upgrade.

Use the Access Dump software:

http://www.intranet2internet.com/public ... TAILS=DUMP

to create a sql file, then import into MySQL using an DB admin package (prob the one you got with your hosting).

I'm having troubles too...

Post by hostingstudio » Sat Jun 21, 2003 5:36 pm

Please may someone help me...!!!

I'm using Raluca's script to convert a Snitz SQL database to PHPBB 2.05.

Of Raluca's script I have managed to successfully run these:

-members.php
-categories.php
-forums.php

When I run topics.php I get a constant error:

1 MySQL error on query BR> INSERT INTO phpbb_topics VALUES ( '6', '5', 'Registrazione effettuata con successo!', 8, 1031177702, 61, 3, '0', '0', '0', 6, 0);
mysql_errno = 1136
mysql_error = Column count doesn't match value count at row 1

Please help me....!!! I'm getting really frustrated with this conversion!!!

Thank you.

P.S.: Snitz Forum stinks! :lol:

As I said in the readme if you want to convert to a newer version then 2.0.2 you have to duplicate line 59 in topics.php.

So, instead of:

Code: Select all

               $q = "INSERT INTO $phpbb_topics VALUES (
                                '$row[TOPIC_ID]',
                                '$row[FORUM_ID]',
                                '$title',
                                $row[T_AUTHOR],
                                $date1,
                                $row[T_VIEW_COUNT],
                                $row[T_REPLIES],
                                '0',
                                '0',
                                '0',
                                $row[TOPIC_ID],
                                0);";
you should have:

Code: Select all

               $q = "INSERT INTO $phpbb_topics VALUES (
                                '$row[TOPIC_ID]',
                                '$row[FORUM_ID]',
                                '$title',
                                $row[T_AUTHOR],
                                $date1,
                                $row[T_VIEW_COUNT],
                                $row[T_REPLIES],
                                '0',
                                '0',
                                '0',
                                $row[TOPIC_ID],
                                $row[TOPIC_ID],
                                0);";

I fixed that problems with notices. You can download the last version from http://mraluca.go.ro/snitz2phpbb2.htm.

Regarding the remaining errors I suspect you didn't empty the tables every time you ran the scripts. Right?

I'm hoping it's just a language thing... but when you say to empty the tables... do you mean the files?

I am rather unsure of what I am doing.

Where do I put the files to run them?
the files you mention are "phpbb_categories" and so on, but I don't see those... only "admin_categories" and such.

Please help!

When I said empty tables I want to say tables with that names from your database. I want to keep the structure of that tables, but without data inside them.

You can put the files on your server (i.e. in the place you have installed the phpbb2 forum) or in any place where the scripts can access the database.
Jasonite wrote: the files you mention are "phpbb_categories" and so on, but I don't see those... only "admin_categories" and such.

It is possible that your tables are named with "admin" prefix instead of "phpbb". In this case just modify my config.php file and replace the name from the second column with admin_...:

Code: Select all

// phpbb2 table names
        $phpbb_categories       = "phpbb_categories";
        $phpbb_forums           = "phpbb_forums";
        $phpbb_users            = "phpbb_users";
        $phpbb_groups           = "phpbb_groups";
        $phpbb_user_group       = "phpbb_user_group";
        $phpbb_posts            = "phpbb_posts";
        $phpbb_posts_text       = "phpbb_posts_text";
        $phpbb_topics           = "phpbb_topics";
Good luck.

Ok, pretend I'm a complete idiot. How do I edit this? The tables are in the database file for the new phpbb forum?

Ok, what about the old Snitz database? I've converted it into a SQL database... should I put it in the phpbb directory as well?

Ok, so will this transfer all my usernames and posts from the snitz database? What will it not transfer?

Thanks
